Gran Turismo 5 (PS3): Amazon.co.uk: PC & Video Games From hot UK Deals GT5 Pre Order £17.59 even if its as shit as xboxers seem to hope it will be its worth the money

GT was easily one of the best car sims out there god i remember playing those games morning, noon and night but imo Forza has it beaten now and Forza 3 looks brilliant.

GT should have been a launch title at least and should have been out last year to give the PS3 much needed sales boost but i feel it's one of those games only die hard PS3 owners want more then anyone else.

I have never been a massive car sim fan but it seems every time they release a new GT it absolutely blitz's the competition i have no reason to believe it will not this time. Not saying don't like Forza but GT has never let me down.

You realise how ridiculous that sounds when you haven't actually played the damn thing? And no, the extended demo from 18 months ago does not count. :)

I does amuse me how people compare how realistic car sims are when the fact is that there is no such thing as a realistic car sim, unless it's one of those fancy ones that researchers have for crash simulations. Anyone who thinks otherwise hasn't spent enough time behind a real wheel.

Try GTR or GTR 2 on simulation mode and you might reassess that opinion. I'll agree, there's fuck all proper sims on the consoles though.

You forgot to quote Mystc G aswell ;)

I honestly don't care about car sims. They will both be like the earlier versions with improved graphics, so what the fuck is the big deal? I'll rather smash some cars in burnout.

Pre-ordered GT5 for less than £18. That's gotta be a good deal :)

No seriously simulations won't ever be realistic because there is no real world feedback, you can't tell when the back end is going to step out like you can in a real car, or brake perfectly for a corner without locking up or relying on abs. It's just one of those things.

You've clearly not tried GTR2 then. You're right, without actually sitting in one of those hydraulic machine things it'll not be the same but GTR and GTR 2 do a damn good job. For example, when you're speeding towards a corner then let go of the accelerator before turning, the weight comes off the back wheels and you lose grip and the back end will slip out unless you manage it.

That's one of many things that are simulated in the game, it's fucking hard work but absolutely great. I suggest you try it but you'll need a good wheel, you can't play simulation mode on it with a joypad.

GT5 is as much simulation as I'd want a computer game to be. Although the AI needs a massive tweak, hopefully 5 can be spot on in that respect.

Anything more and it just gets too bogged down and becomes too much like a damn flight sim, you spend more time setting up the car and thinking about technical crap than you actually do hammering it round a corner.

you've clearly missed my point. Two months ago I got to belt an Aston Martin Vantage around an old RAF base, no computer game will ever dampen my pants quite like that. Also I used to go rally driving in an old alfa romeo GTV and that was adrenaline fueled stuff. Hell driving home from work in my honda civic can be more fun that most driving sims when there's no traffic.

Well of course, a computer game is never going to come close to the sensations of the real thing. That doesn't mean a simulation can't be realistic with respect to what it's attempting to do - simulating driving a car very fast. Things like Gran Turismo/Forza are just advanced arcade games but GTR is actually a simulation in the same way some of those old Jane's games are flight sims, very complex and detailed. I think sitting in an F22 when you launch off a carrier is going to be a little different, but that doesn't stop it being a simulation.

You should give GTR1/2 a go some time with a racing wheel, you may find you're impressed at how accurate it is.

Well the point they seem to have missed by a country mile is a console manufacturer always makes a loss, they make it back through software sales and licensing. Their entire PS3 business model was based on them selling it off the back of reputation. The problem was/is they got beaten early on by an equally powerful console which is 10x easier to program for and released much earlier. They have virtually no exclusives to temp people to invest, less consumers equals less people buy the console.

Overpriced and underdeveloped.

In short they failed.

Wong!

Nintendo refuse to sell their consoles at a loss and have been always had decent enough consoles ( although I hate nintendo but thats another issue ).

You can't argued with their standing the test of time even if the gamecube/n64 gave them mediocre console market positioning they still lost money and reinvented themselves. Other console manufacturers have gone bust after just one bad machine.

Nintendo have a huge influx of cash from the Gameboy up to the DS though there has never been something on the market that challenges it, the PSP was a bad joke so lets not count that and same with the Gamegear which never really took off.

The Wii is aimed at fat mid 20's-30's women and they seem to lap all of the fucking fitness games that come out.

The Atari Lynx was and still is clearly the best handheld console ever made. Granted, they were stretching the term handheld a little bit, but it was still awesome :).

Yup the decent games that come out for it don't get a sniff, it's the constant rubbish party games/kids games that are all over the charts.

The fitness games piss me off though look in any Wii chart there are bound to be 2-3 there.

Almost everytime i go into GAME/Gamestation there is some overweight women late 20's/30s with a Wii Fitness Board in her hand or that new EA one they brought out.

My 69 year old mother loves the Wii I gave her. Left to her own devices she recaptures her youth and plays all the horsie games -- but when family around she gets into the sports games and family games with gusto.

The Wii was aimed at a family market and it delivers in spades, whats not to love?

True, it's just the amount of trash that gets released every week for it and that particular market laps it up like no tomorrow.

PSP has sold over 30 million units worldwide and has been a pretty big hit.
Pass the crackpipe over.

What's the software sales like?

I bet my house the PSPGO will not get that near that amount sold, many including me bought into the hype surrounding the PSP and never used it in the last 2 years at least.

People won't be doing that again.

And yet it takes only 1000 or so sales to make it into the PSP chart (UK).

Lots are floating around unused. They're only doing well in Japan afaik, even the yanks aren't that interested in it.

LOL

US is barely behind Japan in total unit sales and launched 6 months later.

PSP is sony so its fail the only way it could fail more was if MS released a X Hand. :)

I love my PSP the games are leagues ahead of the DS but people decided you did not want good gfx games in your hand you wanted "fun" games. I also used mine alot for film watching untill my mobile came with a better screen. I very rarely play my DS the only substantial play it had was pokemon. But thats just me.
