Someone had to start this old chestnut up again:
  • Playstation 2
  • X-Box
  • Gamecube

I have none of these yet but am definitely going for the Gamecube when it is released in the UK.

Gamecube will be for kiddies but the arcade games (Super Monkey Ball Mmmmm ;)) looks awesome. XBox looks poo. And the PS2 batch of good games is just getting started with GT3 and GTA3.

But......

Nintendo have the rights to the 'Resident Evil' games, 2 new ones RE:4 and RE:Zero plus a remake of Resident Evil one (have a look at the preview at www.gamepot.co.uk) and ports of 2, 3 and Code Veronica. So looks like they might be aiming at the less kiddie market also.

Think out of touch here but isnt the PS2 a bit crap for DVDs and the graphics are a bit, well shite. My dreamcast still beats the ps2 for games and graphics and thats what almost 2 years old.

I'm wanting Xbox just for Halo but will prob stick with the beige box all the same and wait for the pc release with mp support.

Nintendo..well maybe for the kids

My word you people are stupid and ignorant. Do your research. The gamecube is anything but a kiddies console - this is no N64 here, this is a SERIOUS console, with some stunning games. Take a look at the Jap launch titles - The New Wave Race game - since when have you seen a kiddy been into a racing game like this? I never have. Luigi's Mansion - hardly a kiddies game when Luigi is constantly having sex with furniture. Super Monkey Ball - looks childlike, but is incredibly hard, and the most fun game ever. ever ever. Especially after beers or spliffs with some mates.

The PS2 is currently a joke of a console, with no killer apps as of yet. That'll change with MGS2, which is stunning, but still, the titles are very lacklustre.

The X-Box. Erm, remind me what that's doing here again? I thought this was a console forum? ;) Only kidding. The X-Box, while having a lot of potential, again has no killer apps, as well as a shit load of problems.

Gamecube. Definately. If I hadn't passed my driving test, I would have used my money to import one JUST for Super Monkey Ball. It's that good. Instead my money's going on one of those stupid things with wheels.

The N64 started out as a serious console with stunning games including the still playable Goldeneye. Look at it now though, its Pikachu branding shines through. Nintendo has a rare tallent for having the best plan going in, yet coming out with the worst results, history has shown this more than once.

Grand Theft Auto 3 is a killer title, its already out there and its selling well. Also the PS2 has a huge advantage over the Gamecube & X-Box in that it allows u to access the vast library of PS1 titles, rakes of which qualify as "Killer Titles". If I could play my copy of WWF No Mercy on a Gamecube Sony wouldnt have gotten my hard earned cash.

The Gamecube is also digging itself into certain small holes which it should be avoiding. I doubt there is anybody out there who would agree that using a modified DVD format surves any real purpose, just look at the dreamcast & its gd-rom drive :( Throwing away the classic N64 controller will also, imho, prove to be a mistake. Don't get me wrong, I think the PS2 controller sucks as well, but compared to the Gamecube and X-Box alternatives its top dog (bring back the 6 button MegaDrive controller I say).

Also there has been very little coming from the golden sons of Nintendo, Rareware. They're working on another donkey kong title [] and another Starfox title [].

All in all the PS2 is here now & has good titles, whereas the alternatives are just full of promise & lack substance.

PS2 DVD can be improved with an upcoming firmware upgrade. You have to pay for the remote to get it tho.

Personally I'll be getting a Gamecube and an Xbox, and I've already got a PS2 (and two Dreamcasts, a PSX, a Saturn an N64 and a SNES :))

BAH! i'll get a ps2 for the simple reason that it has ffX onwards...nothing else really matters on any other console that the PC and PS2 cant match

Aye i'll think i'll be missing out on FF 10 :(. Oh well though, FF 11 is coming to ALL next gen formats and the PC.

I'm still Gamecube all the way, even though the loss of Rareware is pretty bad. But Capcom's backing the Gamecube, with the new amazing looking Resident Evil coming. And Sega have Sonic Adventure 2 being ported over from the Dreamcast, and Super Monkey ball AND Crazy Taxi. Fingers crossed that Jet Set Radio isn't X-Box only, eh?

If sega are smart its unlikley that any of their titles will be single platform only.

Super Monkey Ball is Gamecube only
Jet Set Radio is X-Box only

And there are lots more single platform only titles in the works i think.
