Greg Bear's "Eon" has a premise that I've always liked since first reading it. The idea that the 7th chamber goes on forever.

In fact have you seen some of the visualisations people have come up with for Eon? This is a competition run by the CG Society and the overall winner is almost as good as anything Hollywood can spit out.
