Why not?

Simple question really.

I don't think there's any harm in it, it brings more revenue and maybe some shows can carry on longer due to it.

First thing i thought was; UK has a ban on THIS? :D

"can I have a drink?"

"can I have a glass of that delicious, refreshing Coca-Cola you just bought from Tesco's for an outrageous discount price?"

I've only seen that kind of product placement(verbal that is), in the biggest loser where it's so obviosu it's comically delicious, just like Cheeri-os!

Sure, it's a good idea, as long as I don't have to pay a fuckin TV license.

Sorry Bugz, the Beeb will still be wanting that.

I don't think they will be that blatant Teedles, otherwise viewers will just switch off. The sensible shows will probably be trying to slip the products past your eyes and into your brain as sneakily and subtley as possible. So you wake up in the morning craving snacks you've never tasted and wanting to buy stuff you've never needed.

Hopefully it will allow commercial broadcasters to make better content and be a little riskier with the shows they commission though.

I think it's a good idea, if a product is effectively placed you will hardly realise its there (consciously anyway), it's only the blatently bad marketing that TdC described that will affect viewing pleasure.

Don't really care tbh. Its not as if there is anything worth watching on commercial UK TV anyway. A couple of placed items won't make any difference to the dross they churn out.

Agreed, only if you really stick it in peoples face, they

'll notice it.

Otherwise it just is there and brings a certain level of realism too.

Actually it just might.

If they get plenty of revenue from a couple of placed items, they have the cash to hire mroe writers, better writers, better effects, etc.

it has to be really blatant for me to notice tbh. for example in I-Robot, the car was quite in-your-face but I still thought "cool car" when I saw it and not "cool Audi". In the Bond where he controls his car with his phone, I didn't think "hey that's a Nokia"

however, if I'm watching a historic epic, and they lave their bodies with a mysterious unguent made from the mystical Niv-Ea plant then I will be mad as hell.

I'm sure I read in that article that beeb won't be doing it anyway, so it'll just be 3/4/5

Really not sure what the fuss is about.
Everywhere you look advertising is prevalent anyway, especially on the channels this will effect.
Don't understand what the fuss is about, so long as it's done in the right way.

Banning, or keeping the ban for *this sort of thing however is just a sensible thing to do.
Understanding and complying with ethical approaches, not trying tricks of the mind...
Leave those who do it sensibly alone, afterall, it may well lead to better programs.
Legalities of sub-concious advertising will still be in effect anyway.

*Said opinions may not necessarily be those of the sponsors parent company or any of their affiliates and as such they cannot be deemed legally responsible for this posters actions.

Eg. Idol in the US all the judges have a bottle of coke in front of them, expect the same here shortly.

Really who gives a fuck if it makes TV more profitable maybe we'll see better programs so we dont have to steal HBO/Showtimes :p

I actually think in some situations it'll be quite good, but it doesn't really phase me. Stuff like coke.. When I don't go near the stuff.. If they advertised Tango/Fanta I'd be like "OMG GIVE"

Given that commercial TV is having a tough time with advertising, it's probably a good thing. Just as long as any programmes aimed at children are kept free of this stuff.

TBH, most people subconsciously block out adverts anyway. I have never seen an advert and then gone out and bought advertised product or service. Anything I buy I want myself, it doesn't get created in me. Most people are the same, adverts are great for brand awareness, but not great at selling stuff directly. I mean, are you really going to see more Cokes sold because they happen to be visible on X Factor?
