Hi Guys :)

Right a mate has a problem with the proccessor speed of his machine. It is meant to be a AMD Athlon 3000+. But in his BIOS it can go to 1.6 - 1. Speed. If he looks on System info it shows Athlon 3000+ (Right Click my comp etc) If he looks at Sytem info on Nero 6 it shows AMD XP 2171 MHz.

He is getting poor performance from all round reaaly. Sluggishness, Nero crashing that sort of a thing.

Anyway can anyone help?

Sys Info From Nero
CPU : AMD Athlon XP 2171 MHz
Bus Speed :167 MHz
Motherboard : Gigabyte nVidia-nForce2
System : Windows XP Pro
BIOS : Award FA
Memory : 512 MB (10ns) DDR
Sound : Realtek AC97 Audio
Video : NVIDIA GeForce FX 5600XT

What Sys Should be
CPU: AMD Athlon 3000+
Same Mobo
Same Memory etc

The problem is detailed above, but with CPU Speed problems, I dont know much about the CPU Speeds within Athlon much so please help.

Is it possible the shop that he got it from has stuck the wrong chip in OR wether the mobo will not take the proccessor.

TIA :)

Yup, 333Mhz @ 6.5x mupltiplier.

The 3000+ is just their speed rating (intended to be equivalent of P4 running at that speed). It's just like VIA used to do years back and can be confusing.

Max cpu ? Im a bit lost. :)
The motherboard should be able to handle the FSB of the cpu fitted. XP3000+ is the fastest 333 fsb. If the mobo supports 400fsb -most newish ones do- you could fit a xp3200, although according to the sales blurb you need pc3200 ram to suit, which is the reason I bought a 3000 instead of a 3200, I didnt want to replace my ram as well atm .
