I can't get onto online games. Everytime I try to connect it says something like 'could not complete connection with server' or something like that.

If anyone can help me with ny problem, please get in contact.

Much Appreciated.

Have you tried typing in retry in the console?

If your computer cannot load the game in time (this is especially with CS) you end up timeing out from the server.
Typing in retry will let you try again, but this time everything should load a lot quicker and you have a better chance of loading the game without timeing out

I had the same prob.
If you disable IPX (right click your HL icon, then properties and on the command line type " -noipx" without the speechmarks" you will connect quicker.............maybe.

In counterstrike (and now, with the new patch, for TFC) I have to connect in Software mode otherwise it takes too long to load and kicks me. Try connecting without your graphics card on. I get sucky frame rates but at least I get a game.

Just use /retry in the console for now, directly after it starts connecting, or after it times out.

For a more long time solution, think about getting a new modem and or ISP, lots of sites on the topic go search around. Tweak your existingmodem settings, www.lagless.com will help.
Tweak your CS configuration, http://guides.barrysworld.com/cs is a good start place.

Just an afterthought -you havent already been tweaking your Cs config.cfg have you? A lot of people fiddle with settings they should'nt and their little diddly 56k cant cope any more.

Failing any of the above you could alway try the on switch at the back of your modem, that little bugger has caught me out many a time.

yeh the retry does work.

CS has always taken a long time to load. Its a 100+mod not by valve so the coding is not optimized.

Re the last comment, Cs has never taken ages to load for me UNLESS there has been a problem with my ISP. It is simply a matter of tweaking and improving, most people have no idea about their shit DAC phone line or crappy ISP.

PS - CS has been in the hands of valave since 1.0 as they bought the rights to it, thats why we have the valve player models and shit, they do help gooseman optimise the code.
