Problems with DVD-rom

for some reason my DVD-rom stopped reading DVD's it can play normal cd-roms and audio cd's but when i put a DVD disk in it it doesn't recognizes it.
I just get "please insert a disk in drive E".i tried pretty much everyting i could think of but nothing seems to work.
anyone got any ideas?thanks :cheers:

Is it a burnt dvd u are trying to read?
If so some dvd-readers may have problems readins some dvd-media.

If its i silverback i dunno.

It may not be the reason but have you played a program lately that uses Starforce protection ?
Some people on the X3 forums and other games forums have complained about it affecting cd/dvd drives ability to read anything..............it does seem a rare case though.

not that i know.ran a starforce removal utility just to be on the safe side but nothing changed.thanks for the suggestion anyway :)

heh, my Plextor 716-A doesn't read CDs anymore, but burns and reads DVDs just fine :p

2nd one to break :/

Dvd's come in two formats + and - all i can think of is that your DvD cannot read one ofthese formats, also if it is a "grey" chinease dodgy import it may say DvD but not be a DvD....

can yo play no dvD's(music/data etc)?

nah,has nothing to do with that.it doesn't even read DVD's anymore that it used to read.

can't say there changed alot in WoW, even saw Gresin playing again! :D
got me my epic mount (finally!) and now grinding the Arathi Basin for the PvP Armor ... looks just Orctastic! :p

o0o i had the same problem, but only after i changed my gfx card+added ram. I found out that the psu wasn't able to take the load and so made it not work properly..

i had it so i bought another dvd-cdrom combo thingy and its fine :)

so it's either a new psu or a new DVD-rom?bleh,was hoping on fixing it without buying stuff :p

hehe,got lots of friends but if not sure if they have a more powerfull one and if they feel much for letting me inside their computer :p

nevermind,just bought a dvd writer and works now :p

You could have tried to remove the DVD drive from Device Manager and scan for new hardware afterwards.

nah,did that allready.tried everything i could think off before i went to the shop.wasen't that expensive anyway :)
