I got an Epson R200, photo quality prints, neat cd printing slide for it to print directly onto paintable cd) 6 fucking expensive cartridges but theres ways around this.
£80-90.
Absofuckinglutely good apart from the official ink prices
I've just got a HP Photosmart 7762 printer from PC World. It was only 100 quid in the sales. You can put all types of memory card into it directly and there's a little LCD screen that lets you preview pictures you want to print.
It also does contact sheets and scans them and prints your choices even though it's not actually a scanner.
I'm very happy with it. The cartridges.... black, colour and photo-colour can be got for around the 20 each mark. I've printed quite a few pics and the "trial" ink cartridges are still at a fairly healthy level.
Don't get an Epson photostylus. They suck. They suck so hard, that some of the ink stays in the cartridge while printing. Streaky prints suck. It sucks even more when you clean everything 10 times, including the physical bits on the cartridge, and it still prints streaky lines.
Damini had an Epson a while back. The worst thing about them is that you can't print without all cartridges having ink in them.
So say you wanted to print off an important document in black and white. Your black cartridge could be completely full while the colour's run out yet it still won't let you print that document. Teh suckeh.
Don't bother printing photo's off - it is cheaper and better to get them printed off by a proper developer.
We have a place in my town that prints off at 10p per print (min 50). Your colour cartridge will cost £20 per throw - that's 200 photo's - an amount you will not get from a print cartridge.
If you can't find anyone locally look at Colorama. They have the advantage of printing off in Digi camera aspect not the 6x4 or 5x7 of 35mm. Some people will crop your piccies if you get them printed.
The ink from home printers has also been shown to fade over time.
My advice is get a laser printer for home (available for about £100) which is far better value for money than an inkjet, as the toner lasts ages and get someone else to print your piccies off.
I've been using inkcycle cartridges for about a year which are dirt cheap and haven't broken my printer yet. But my printer is old and crap so wouldn't be too bothered if it did break.
