Well out of me and my 3 siblings, one has finally popped one out and Im the youngest in my family so kind of stuck for ideas for a present as never bought someone a baby present before.

I don't want to get clothes (as they have tons) or some rubbish that my brother and his gf want but I want to get him something memorable maybe that sticks with him as he grows up and keeps; I just have no idea what.

Any ideas?

:D

Seriously though, can't go wrong with some kind of a simply, fluffy, teddybear. One with no moving parts etc that can't break easily. Might become his fave.

I have one from my 1st b-day, been around for 30 years ;)

he's new born, right?

anything you buy him won't mean anything to him, unless its a soft toy

perhaps a nice framed photo

or put some money into his baby account

you could buy all the children something - eg a wigwam or a paddling pool or book a childrens entertainer

Think the point is to get something that will mean something, added sentiments and all for it being an early age gift.

And a baby account isn't a bad idea, as long as you make sure that only the baby and no one else can access it until he's 18+.

You can keep adding to it on all occasions too, and the kid will for certain appreciate it.

Screw what the parents want ;)

A bracelet(adjustable for instance) would work too, but it might not work well if the kid doesn't like that sort of stuff. Same goes with rings, necklaces etc.

What about a nice book of childrens stories which his parents can read to him as he grows up. Something like the original Thomas the Tank Engine stories or Beatrix Potter?

If the parents have some nice photos of when the mother was pregnant (and the scans as well) you could get a nice photo album, with plenty of room so that photos can be added as the child grows up.

Nice toy is a good one too, know a few people (admittedly girls) who still have their first toy that they keep by their bedside :fluffle:

Another one heard of which is quite nice is buy some whisky/wine that was produced this year and they keep it until 18/21 whatever and then they can drink it for their party  . Here is a link came across, but cant testify to how good it is (google came up with quite a few):

Similar predicament, I went for something practical at birth, then a zoo membership/animal sponsorship for her 1st birthday.

however, thats a completly different kind of toy

ha not true; well, not only true! I mean I've still got my first toy (little rabbit) and some others that I keep by my bed and would be thoroughly mortified if anything happened to to him.

Oohhh!!! get him a tortoise! Then he'd have a pet he could grow up with; ok maybe not, well like someone said I eman he's a baby so he wont know so I think a nice toy or book set and maybe a few quid in an account for his future?

Anyway enjoy your new nephew, and think in 18 years you'll be able to say 'remember that excellent baby gift I got you...now go get me a drink!'

i have a little bracelet my Nan got me when i was born it has my name and D O B on it. For my 18th she got me another and that let me join them together and wear it again.

These are not expensive just cheap little bracelets that are only worth something because where they came from.

when I have to get pressies for babies or very small kids I always do it by touch. I go out to a certain store here where I live and get the softest, most agreeably feeling thing I can find. I usually also close my eyes when feeling so I only get the touch.

I do this because I can remember having a toy/blanket/thing when I was little. I can't remember what it looked like but I sure as hell can remember what it felt like :)
