People who have seen me post before will know I am not the greatest GOA fan in the world but it's worth handing out praise where it is due.

GOA seem to have learned their lesson from the Open Beta launch fiasco and, as far as I am aware, the live start has been about as smooth as any large MMO could be, and everything has run well since then. Well done to GOA.

The same praise to Mythic as well for the game. There are still a few bugs around but overall it is the most bug free start to an MMO I have seen for a long time - if AOC had managed one like this I may still be in there. There will no doubt be a lot of minor changes over the next couple of months as early issues are ironed out and extra bits added (it would be nice to be able to show backpack items in chat for example - let me know if anyone knows a way) but its a great start.

Praise over, back to whining normal in next posts.

There was no lesson to be learned from the Open Beta launch. Mythic had had the website and the code activation up for weeks or at least several days. People had been screaming for GOA to do the same thing. There was a total lack of communication from GOA.

GOA should have been able to run the Open Beta without any trouble the fact there were such large problems highlights the casual attitude GOA have to extra game features that Mythic players take for granted.

As a result of the OB the only noticeable change was the removal of IainC from posting in public. Now it appears only Magnus is posting updates for us. GOA seem to have replaced a bad service with even less service.

Mythic already have the realm war and server status pages up and working. We have got a post from Magnus saying that GOA should have it up by sometime next week. But no reason was given why! Is this just another thing they don't care about because its just an "extra feature". There could be a reason why they are waiting but because they don't tell us we have to assume they just don't care.

This is 2008 and not 2001, we have higher expectations, MMOs should have better launches these days. We were told that we would get the same service as Mythic customers. Most people understand that it is not always possible to have exactly the same service but if there are differences we want a proper explanation.

Most of your points have some relevance but saying that there was nothing to be learned from the OB launch is just not true. If nothing had been changed then we would have had exactly the same problem on the 18th, we didn't so GOA have changed things and learnt a lesson.

I have always said that GOA have a major problem with the lack of information and news they hand out but, to avoid simply being a pure GOA basher whatever happens, this thread was to point out something well done. GOA can do things well at times and they have done so far with the launch.

Hopefully things will improve further as we settle into WAR.

Aside from a couple of cock ups early on its gone pretty smoothly, activated my account without any problems at all, no LDS, no lag and no crashes (touch wood) With IainC out of the picture the communication has got back on track. I am currently looking for recipes for hat, i thought i might have it with a little pepper :)

Though they really REALLY need to ditch that worthless flash website

Mythic are cocking up more than GOA at the moment, a lot of people cannot play as they did not give any grace period to enter CE codes, they have now extended it to tuesday for certain retailers but are refusing to offer anything like GOA have :(

I personally think the only major cockup of GOA is refusing to back down on the Flash website issue, it causes problems for some people and they ignore this.

What exactly was learnt from the OB? Did GOA not realise you need to be activate your account to be able to play? GOA have a large amount of experience (from DaoC) and are part of a very large company in France Telecom, they were able to control the number of people in OB so there is really no excuse for such a total failure.

The OB went wrong because GOA didn't care about it. They assumed they could provide a half arsed service without losing any money. The normal launch went well because if it hadn't GOA would have lost money. When I start seeing GOA appear to care about the community then I might believe they have learnt.

Mythic have recently announced server cloning to help deal with the queues on the more popular servers in game. I look forward to hearing what GOA propose to do about the long waiting times people are currently experiencing to get into game. I expect we will hear nothing although don't worry at least the servers are up which is better than the OB so we must be happy.

actualy what GOA done in the open beta was actualy a good thing as it showed them whatt happens when loads of people try to register a key and it wasnt like the OB was paid for yet they are still giving 7days free because of it.

but realy what would you of prefered they opend the page a few days early so people could slowly enter the beta keys then when it came to the head start and launch no1 could enter the keys for something that is paid for.

atleast the way they did it they only lost a few days of open beta instead of causing people to totaly miss the head start and possibly the start of the game.

afraid that sums it all up for me. at no point did i see anyone make a sensible request, or say they had sent in feedback or anything, it was all whine and nothing but

they cant copy its, copyrighted, belongs to a different (albeit allied) company :p

and i would hazard a guess that the web monkey GOA employ is a flash-or-nothing type person.
cant they get some money off subs, EA, MYthic, someone, and send the silly blighter on a TRAINING COURSE TO LEARN SOMETHING ELSE !

hey, if you asked the community i bet enough people would chip in 50p for it to cost GOA nothing ;)

There were plenty of sensible suggestions posted in the feedback sections of the closed beta forums, ie the place where GOA specifically asked us to send feedback them feedback. That was moderated so there was no flaming. There have been plenty of sensible posts on public forums too, some people do flame and whine but that doesn't give GOA an excuse to ignore the rest of us.

They are providing at the moment a service they should be providing, why should we give them praise for doing just that?

very few other MMO's have launched as smooth as this so relay you should give them credit as even wow lost the key registration for a day when it launched.

I find it hard to give GOA credit - when you have to wait 30mins-1hour+ to play - where is there feedback on what's going on? They don't seem to think that official feedback is important - and leave people to quote the Mythic site news (which often isn't relevant)

People are being put off WAR in their droves - not so much the hard-core fans who have been playing beta etc so know how good the game is already - no I'm talking about people who spent their £30 to get a box, took it home, installed, then found it a real nightmare to register their game, and then found they had to queue to play... any crashes meaning another long wait. A LOT of people would take the game back to the shop the very next day.

I love the game, but HATE the way GOA run the service.

and if they allowed more peopel onto the server to make sure you didnt have to queue, you wouldnt mind ?

and the 100 people after you

and the 1000 people after that

and then.. oh look, too many people, no mobs, massive lag.
3...2...1...

you don`t have to queue when you start playing on a server that doesn`t say `FULL`.

every person has the choice to pick a server and queue or pick a server that doesn`t say FULL and not have queues

and do you think the US has no issues with queues ? lol

and good luck taking a game back to the shop if you have entered the registration code.

to me, not a single line of what you typed makes sense.
