Powerleveling

First of all yes i know this is posted in rvr section and is not but more ppl will read it here :)

I would like to know peoples views on powerleveling others. Is it ok? and if so in what circumstances? IMO pwrlvling sux. Firstly... in the time that u r pwrlvling someone else u can be either xping yourself or doing rvr. Please have consideration for the person u ask... when u are fecking lvl 10 i think it is faster u get ur own xp then bore ur poor mate to death.

The amount of messages i recieve begging for PL or witness other ppl asking others for it is growing at an alarming rate! People msg me, a total stranger and beg for pwrlvl.

I have absolutely no problems with anyone PL'ing a mates alt (specially stealths cos they r hard to lvl )as long as u dont mind taking the time out to do it and he already knows how to play ie. he has a high lvl char but ffs can we stop this culture that PL everyone is acceptable. You are not helping a person at all or the rest of your realm by helping them get high lvl without them knowing diddly squat about their chars. (personally met 3 lvl 30+ warriors over last 2 weeks who dont know what protect or guard is for no lie).

What bugs me even more is Healers asking for pwrlvl ROFL... like it could be easier for that class to find a grp and lvl (heh got lvl 34 in 2days9 hrs played time on pryden b4 i rerolled to mid on excal).
not trying to brag about the speed i lvled, just making point healers are so needed so u have no excuse to bug others.

sounds like i got Pwned don't it? :)
anyway flaming can commence

They are even worse than other beggars. Too lazy to do the hard work that most of us did. Ignore them, or spit them in the face I say. Vomit of the earth.

oh the tanks not knowing about protect and guard isnt new, and it's not just dumbass tank classes who suffer from the problem either, i had to explain to a lvl 47 ranger one day a few weeks ago about switching from flight to normal arrows after the first shot in pve to save huge amounts of cash , pretty much all rangers should know that by lvl 8 or so.

mages? well nukers especially, an alarming number of them don't know to actually let the tanks taunt first (presuming your tank isnt silly enough to use a spear :p), amount of mages i see die because they're so damn trigger happy, then blame the tanks for not holding aggro :p, powerlvling is the reason we have so many lvl 50's who dont know how to play the game, who dont know their way around their own realms, around anyone elses realms etc... they just sat there being powerlvld and come out of it as a lvl 50 newbie, may as well reroll because it's hard to think they'll ever understand the game since they havent really played it through properly :m00:.

thankfully, there are still enough high lvl people who HAVE played it, and who know what they're doing, but if they didnt have to keep picking up the slack from the 1337 powerlvl'd newbies then i think we'd all be better off :D

i'm really beginning to think that nobody researches how to actually play a class when they roll it, it's not hard to pick up some tutorials on it, each time i roll a character, i learn EXACTLY how it should be played, then experiment with other ways too, and end up learning everything i can about it, but the things you see people do... sheesh! ;)

Yeah, it's almoast like this: "Hi, I just made a [insert class here] (cuz I heard it's uber), how do I spec?"
Bah

Heh well nice of u not to help a newbie who doesn't know how to spec.. and u wonder why peops flee to albs? :D

When I started on hib, I asked a highlvl ranger if melee rangers was worth anything. And that guy helped me alot ;)

Powerlevling is nice, you can make a poor guy skip exping from 5-20 or 5-30, and it doesn't take that much time either. Everyone knows that those levels are hard, boring, annoying and so on. Although I would only do this for guildmates :)

I often get whats the best shadowblade spec?!??!!??!?!?!??!

And I always answer, I don't know :) I would answer that on any class they asked me, because in my oppinion there is no "best spec" to any class.

Lets see how to solve ur problem:

- beggar sends, hello can u pl me plz?
- you send, no.

power leveling a friend or a guildmate is ok, but I think it can actually hurt a players knowledge of the class if he's power leveled too much. Nothing worse than having healers in the group that cant control aggro on themselves or mages that are using AOE on mezzed mobs by mistake :D

CBH guild rule nr 2:

No begging for powerleveling

I think it's fine if someone tries to powerlevel someone else -unless that someone else is a newbie to the game-, but some people just beg anyone they see, which should be discouraged.

powerleveling? Wots that? I've been playing since 30seconds after Excalibur went up for the first time..... I'm lvl42 :p may have something to do with me going months at a time without playing :p

Powerlevelers are an interesting race, I understand why some people wanna get to 50 quick if its an alt or something. But just to get there just for the uberness is silly. But hey they can help me level.

In other words we just gotta live with it :p

glad to see some guilds have respect for their guildname. Guilds who discourage begging ppl outside of the guild for money is also nice :)

Well my hunter was my first char started sometime in march ( i think it was) and he had at 50 done the following:
/play 24ish days
/quest 40ish
I went around alot, if I found an NPC i interacted to get quests, even lower quests.
On my alts I have done nothing but epics and the ones that gives me usefull stuff for the specific class, but im not a huge fan of powerlvling, IMO you wont get the feel for your chars abilities if you hit insta-50.
And as for advice, if people PM me for hunter advice on spec (which happens less often, I wonder why ;)) I gladly give out my feelings on spec's but also make it clear my way isnt the only way to specc and they should ask other hunters as well.

No, CBH guild rule nr 3 is:

Generally be nice to people, respect others ( : And that's all the rules we currently have, although I think we could do with 1 or 2 more atm.

I got powerlevelled a few times in my playing career (I'm talking about Sharon). I've been given super druid buffs and go out and kill... but it wasnt all that nice. Still... thank you Zuper, thank you Ertaii.

Then, as I hit 25, i screamed all over "I'm gimped! I'm gimped! Leave me alone!" because, well... i was gimped. The Draconis Alumni guyz took me with them a few nights and beamed me from 25 to 31. It was then i learned what powerlevelling means: getting cap xp each kill, sitting on yer butt, playing the drum.
But I learned something usefull: twisting songs. yes, its cool, and people usually say: whooow, how do you do THAT? and so on and so forth.

To cut it short: I've been powerlevelled and I didnt like it. I cannot be in a group to which i cant contribute with anything.

But, to each his own.

Cheers,
//Shaz.

even as a low level bard you can always contribute to a group (unless it has another bard + someone with mana regen) :p

play an eldritch getting powerleveled (or even in a group slightly too high) and you'll know what feeling useless is like :p

Not far from the truth though ( : One of CBH's ideals is to be a guild that offers small guilds a place in their alliance to still be able to have a saying in a big /as and to be a guild for inexperienced people to learn how to play the game in a nice way. It's an aspect of CBH that I admire very much and although I left CBH for another reason, I still certainly uphold that ideal too.

whilst powerlvling isnt something i've had tons of experiance with, i've been in groups where i've been lower than everyone else by a couple of levels recently, afterall, when they have no nukers and a mana eld, 2 levels lower than "perfect" walks past... :)

but it's not fun, the tanks are hitting for than me :p, things like that (not quite that bad but you get it), not fun, with my minstrel however it's just fine, i solo enough to make sure i understand the class, but when grouped usually end up being asked to stick powersong on and use stuns to help the sorc mezz :p, is rather nice to do that and still feel usefull :), because i'm increasing the xp flow by rather a large amount with the powersong.

more fun for my mincer when i'm allowed to tank, but rarely do i get the cance, only if there's two minstrels in group :)

and yes, i mean allowed, nothing wrong with the group insisting on powersong, for the same reason that i rather insist that if possible (ie, if they have the spec) that tanks use small weaps to taunt with for pbae groups, because it's more useful, you dont see my eld trying to tank azures, because he's crap at it, and therefore has no right to try too in a group since he'd endanger everyone, well a spear is crap at pbaoe taunting, and endangers everyone, go figure :)

we all have some use in a group, main thing to remember when it comes to powerlvling is this: is your job altered by the level of mob your fighting? if the answer is no, i just play powersong anyway so nothing changes, then your perfectly valid :), if you have to directly nuke the mobs like an eldritch, your just worthless to the group if too low, and like me, you shoudlnt accept the group invites, because the xp for everyone, i mean EVERYONE including you, will be crap because of your own shortcomings in the lvl difference department :)

second problem can be countered by making sure you solo and learn a lot about the class and not powerlvl all the time, but some people just dont bother :(, and think that at 50 they'll be uber regardless.

but just remember, it's no fun to miss the mobs EVERY time :p

There's never two minstrels in a group Charonel, except in RvR. ;) Also you can tell the sit and powersong minstrels because they can't mez or fight for crap in RvR (saw sooo many minstrels that couldn't mez in thid, was hilarious). :p
Generally a few hours on trees / pikes in lyonesse is enough to teach minstrels to mez though. ;)

well if you go for an "uber" group i'm sure there aren't two minstrels :p, but there were a few groups on pryd that accepted two :), was a laugh and a half tbh, sitting playing powersong isnt the best thing, but at least it's easy :D, still, while there isnt often the chance to be a second minstrel so you can tank, it DID happen from time to time. was a laugh in the ant room anyway :p

also it's not as much fun without them, having TWO (not just me :p) people in group casting confuse on the purp mobs at random is just soooooo funny :p

When I powerlevel people (do it every now and then at advisors and/or tanglers) I will only ever do it for friends - i.e. alts of guild members/friends, or people I know from outside the game who are just starting out and that I want to give a bit of a bump to get them going.

Would now be a bad time to try and call in a couple of favours by asking if anyone would help me by PLing my necro when SI comes out? :m00:
