Hi all,

I have it on reliable authority that I will be getting one of these for my birthday:

Pinnacle Systems - Product summary - Pinnacle SoundBridge

I need to 'suggest' some suitable speakers to go along with it. I'm after some cost effective in price, but still decent that won't break in the first 10 days... any suggestions from you audiophiles please?

No, the home music is a cheaper alternative, and one that I've just ordered. Not that I'll know how good it is cos the Pure Legato stereo in the bedroom I was going to plug it into went funny in last nights storms (there was a power surge I think) and is now fucked. Got to claim on insurance, but god knows how long that'll take.

In the mean time I can plug it into the Creative speakers that I've got lying around, I'll let you know how good they are Jup :)

Hi Jup, and update if you're interested.

I got my Soundbridge Homemusic. I already have a Netgear MP101 that I got off ebay for £40 ish that is attached to the stereo downstairs and works fine. I had been looking for another one for upstairs when the price on the Soundbridge fell to the same amount.

I am really happy with it. I have read a few bad reviews around the place, but the main problems seem to have been worked out with firmware (WEP only security was a big gripe but WPA has now been added for instance). It picked up my network very quickly, much faster than the Netgear, and also plays internet radio much better.

I used to find that having my PC on to listen to music was a bit of a pain, especially first thing in the morning etc, and so I bought a Freecom FSG NAS. This has Twonkyvision loaded on it as standard and the Soundbridge works perfectly with it, I haven't had to load the packaged software at all.

One thing that caused slight problems was that the most recent full release firmware (which the player downloaded and installed itself with no problems) will not allow you to listen to BBC radio 1-4, these are now UK only and the BBC have changed the streams apparently. There is a beta firmware that does the trick perfectly though, but you have to go through the Roku website and log the units MAC address before it will accept it. It is easy but a bit of a faff.

That apart I am delighted with it, and to be honest would consider changing the Netgear for the full size unit that you are getting it is that much better.

Oh and the Creative speakers that I linked to sound darn good to my untrained ear, and so I am very happy all round.

Hope that helps

That's ace, RB, thanks! It is the smaller version (sorry I posted in a rush) that I am getting so I think I may just go for those same speakers if your results are good :)

Cheers!
