Royal Mail are not making the council pay, they are making the customer pay and suffer, I am amazed so many of you are overlooking this.

Royal Mail pay their taxes like everyone else. Their business premises will pay taxes to the council as well. The council aren't doing the job they're paid to do, which is ensuring that people have safe roads to use.

This isn't a problem caused by Royal Mail. If they can't safely use the public highway then what do you expect them to do? Send out their own staff to do the council's job for them?

But I think you're overlooking the effect that the council has on this, in fact, they're winning, RM are getting the blame, not the council, when in fact, it's the councils fault.

Everyone moans at the Council, Council sorts the paths out, Royal Mail can send out mail what ever weather, everyone's a winner.
Everyone moans at Royal Mail, Council are laughing because they're avoiding responsibility, Royal Mail make the decision if they should risk sending out postmen in bad weather because they could hurt their selves on inadequate pavement, or just don't send out mail, no-ones a winner.

Man slips over, people look for someone to BLAME.

I slipped when climbing rocks in Devon, should I CLAIM against Bideford COUNCIL, or should I just go "oh, I slipped, whoops." I maintain that those rocks I were climbing on had not been cared for properly. It's a disgrace. Plenty of people rely on those rocks.

Rock-climbing postmen? - Right.

It's a bit like saying you work in games dev, and the people who provide your PCs make them poorly and there's a chance that they could over heat and burn your legs (saying the towers at your feet) it's not needed, and un-necessary fo shure, there's mistakes out there, but in order for the Royal Mail to do this kind of action, there has to be a number of cases for it to happen, and then there has to be a reason for it to happen, it's not like all of the Postmen are wearing flipflops.

Well done, again completely missing the point. Why do the customers have to lobby the council? Royal Mail had a man injured, they should be doing it or threaten legal action. They haven't though, instead they refuse to deliver on wet days which means a refusal to do a job they have already taken money for.

Because the power of the people > the power of the Royal Mail.

I think people in general over see the exploitable position the Royal Mail are in.

Stamp price goes up, service quality drops through the floor...

http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/201...-box-collections_n_1602401.html?utm_hp_ref=uk

Royal Mail cut nearly 6,500 post box collections last year, figures have revealed.
The postal service also brought forward final collection times at more than 4,000 post boxes, meaning customers have to post their letters earlier.
In the 12 months to March 2012 Royal Mail cut 9,689 collections from some post boxes, while adding 3,236 at others - leaving a net loss of 6,453 collections.
Figures also show the final collection times for 10,006 mail boxes were brought forward, while the times were extended for 5,719.

If the post office said something like "Due to circumstances beyond our control we are unable to deliver mail to your location during adverse weather. Until repairs can be made by the xyz county council you will need to collect your mail from your local sorting office. For an update on when the repairs will be carried out please contact your Council Office on 123." at least it would not look like they are being paranoid fuckers.
