postcard mouse pointer machine hangs

hi
been playing cs and it's started crashing, this has only started in the last few weeks. when using punkbuster or not. i get connected and can play for a bit then my machine hangs and i get a postcard sized window in my screen, that yopu can't see, that i can move my windows mouse pointer about in, the only way to fix it is by restarting my machine.

well as the machine hangs an scr is out of the question. the screen looks the same as any cs map you are playing , but you can't move the crosshair, but you can move your windows mouse pointer around a postcard sized section on the screen. it's a bit like the firewall zone alarm bug with q3 , but i have removed zone alarm from my machine even doing a regedit find and delete.

Right, i think i get the Picture...

Your saying that you start CounterStrike, and then you get Past the Logging onto a Server, so your on the Map.

Then, for no reason, it just Freezes?

And it has the Map showing, with the Mouse Crosshair not Moving, and a *Postcard* sized Screen comes up?

You can move your mouse/windows Pointer inside this *Postcard* but unable to move in CounterStrike.

If you do a Control+Alt+Delete only ONCE, check to see if Counterstrike has a * NOT RESPONDING * Message, if it does, its down to something Conflicting w/ your Game.

Perhaps if you Update your Graphics Card Driver, it may just solve the Problem?

Yes, it's just a windows error. Either switch to Linux or put up with them

See what it says. Often it will just be 'hl.exe has caused an error in kernal32.dll and will now close' or something. If this is the case, then ok the window, you'll be back at your desktop, and try HL again.

Oh also, i might as well ask as this is like the same type of Thread:

When i play CounterStrike, i have no problems what so ever (Apart from annoying Lag!!), but, for instance, i have MSN Messenger, someone will send me a message, so, i press ALT + TAB so it switches to MSN or any other Programs i have running.

I type my Message, and what have you, then go back into CounterStrike, what i find is the SOUND dies, i hear absolutly NOTHING, so i have to quit the Game and go to the Main Menu.

But when i press ESC to quit the Game (Shows all the Servers) all the Outter Layer (Where it says SERVER INFO, FILTER, JOIN etc etc) all goes to like the AMIGA Type Loading Screen, with Green, Whites, Blue etc.

This has been plaguing me for a very longtime, but sometimes it gets annoying...


Does anyone have a Clue?

Ye, that used to happen to me occasionally, but never frequently.

Simple Answere: Dont use MSN as it's p00.

Actually, that happens to me if I alt-tab out of Half-life at all. My solution is not to alt-tab at all.
