After a recent "nvidia is better than ati" style thread in Tech Help i gathered we could use an epeen combat thread like this.

My main system at the mo is my laptop:

Pentium M 725 (1.6ghz w/ 2mb L2 cache)
MiTAC 8050D chassis
1024mb DDR ram
ATi 9700 Pro graphics w/ 128MB of dedicated memory
15.4 widescreen
40GB hdd

My system back home is:

Antec P180 Case
Abit AN8 ultra motherboard
A64 3700+ @ 2.9ghz
600gb SATA II Storage (2 x 300gb in raid0)
2048MB ddr ram
ATi X1800XL 256MB @ 600/600
G15 keyboard, 6.1 surround sound speakers, MX1000 mouse etc

How about your specs? My laptop is almost 4 years old and my base unit was built in January. I plan on upgrading at christmas to a dual X1950 setup.

I have a distinct feeling this thread will sink like the titanic, but who knows :)

Desktop:

19" Illyama CRT @ 1600 x 1200
Abit IC7 Motherboard
Intel Northwood P4 HT - 3000 mhz
OCUK Own-brand 2 GB DDR PC3200 SDRAM
ATI x800xl 256mb AGP 8x Graphics Card
2 x 10,000 RPM 39.4 GB SATA Western Digital Raptors in Raid-0
(Hi der monthly defrag in <10 minutes :D)
2 x 80gb IDE Storage Drives

About as top end as I can really get with that motherboard and processor combo - next purchase is a flat screen TFT, then look at a new system build. Knocking on 3 - maybe 4? - years old now.

Laptop:

15.4" Widescreen WXGA @ 1280x800
Intel Celeron M 380 - 1500 mhz
524 MB 533MHz DDR2 SDRAM
Intel Mobile 915GM Express Integrated GFX
40GB (5400rpm) Harddrive

Cheap crap Dell laptop to use for web browsing/email on a wireless connection. Does the trick, runs XP nicely without batting an eyelid - can even run TOA client on it fairly tidily.

Right, I'll go stroke my e-peen now.

hobby really, did some reasearch and found the chip was a very good overclocker and at the time the best buy money against performance.
i bought the one in my bros pc first when they were reasonably new and it capped out at 2.66 on a suicide run, 2.6 stable (800Mhz overclock) . Luck of the draw i guess as i got a bad stepping :) but 800Mhz over stock speed is no dissapointment :D

The second i bought when opertons were more established and people knew what were the good steppings and what they are capable of, someone offered me the chip for £80 after AM2 and conroe's were out (its the best overclocking stepping i couldnt say no ><), so i bought that as i wanted to hit the 3Ghz (1.2Ghz overclock) mark on air

But nowdays i would recommen Cornoe's, maybe even wait for the energy efficient ones to drop in price as benchmark wise they are far superior to AMD. If you fancy a good solid processor for today Opertons wont dissapoint (and their price will plummet) but you should be willing to overclock them to get the best from them
