Hi all,

I apologize if this thread is in the wrong section, but i didn't know where else i could ask for this help. I think my system has become infect in the last few days, i noticed it yesterday when ZoneAlarm started getting strange websites in its 'Site List' that i've never visited before (example: ad.doubleclick.net // crazyegg.com) or see this screen dump :

I've scanned my computer with AGV Free Edition anti-virus and Spyboy Search and Destroy yet neither of them have picked up anything. New websites pop up every 30mins - 1hour or so in the Zone Alarm 'Site List' which is making me a little worried. I've looked at this site which states i can get rid of a lot of these sites by blocking them in my Hosts file ( Blocking Unwanted Parasites with a Hosts File ) but again, i'm not sure if that is a safe thing to do.

Does anyone have any advice regarding what i can do to make my system clean? I'm contemplating completely wiping my computer and re-installing windows so that i know it's clean, as at the moment i don't want to use my creditcard on-line. As you can gather from reading this post i don't know too much about internet security, so any help you guys can give would be greatly appreciated.

Have any of the sites you visted had banner ads on them? or sidebar banners? or even any sort of advertisements on them?

:twak:

overly paranoid over banner ads and website tracker sites.

(minor advice - get rid of AVG Free Edition, and pay for anti virus like NOD32. At least then you know it does work and updates pretty god-dawm frequently. most bought AV's come with anti-spyware included these days as standard)

Yes a few have, but not many. The thing that worries me is that more and more strange websites keep getting added to my Zonealarm 'Site List' without me actually having visited any sites. At the moment i've had an extra 4 sites added to the 'Site List' since i posted this thread ( a.as-eu.falkag.net // content.yieldmanager.com // m1.2mdn.net // ads.unister-gmbh.de ).

They're ad servers, you have been to those sites as the banner images are being loaded off them

That makes sense, when i was browsing google for some answers more of those links appeared, i think that's because the 'help' sites had banners as well. Is there any way i can stop this from happening? Like updating my Hosts file?

Goto Google Pack and install PC Tools Spyware Doctor and run that on your system, it's about 1,000,000 times more effective than Spybot.

Thanks for all the replys so far, it's really set my mind at ease knowing that it's not a problem on my pc :)

I wouldn't bother so much with the Norton, iirc it just tells you that you're fucked and doesn't do anything about it.
