now i've kept a bit quiet about this for a bit even tho i have been shocked at their inedptitude so far in the madeleine mccann case but i've seen something on the news this morning to really blow my stack..

a 2 year old child has also gone missing and the police in potugal are now complaining that they cant give 2 cases high profile.. the madeleine case has kinda taken over...

now.. am i wrong in thinking that a national police force should be able to handle 2 high profile cases at the same time? what the fuck are they playing at? its bad enough they let the cleaners into the crime scene and removed fingerprints and evidence.. but now they saying.. ooo! 2 cases.. cant do the 2nd coz we still working on the 1st... this is meant to be a police force for a developed country.. i'd expect this kinda crap in africa or summit but it aint.

sorry to rant early on a sunday but this is really taking the piss tbh peeps and it must be even more frustrating to maddy's parents and family

You're not wrong in thinking that, although I think you may have misunderstood, the other case has come as a bit of a shock because they wanted to focus most of there attention on the current case due to it being so over-publicised.

Sorry to say it but most people know/think it, Little Madeleine chances are very low, more then likely dead =[

They got all their best assets investigating this case, of course they will have difficulties investigating any other high profile cases. Any country will to be honest. Even the UK, if they have multiple high profile cases on the go has trouble coping. The reason we do so well though is the fact that we run on a more regional system compared to portugal who act more on a national force when it comes to high profile. For example, with hem prostitute murders in the UK recently. I believe it was Suffolk police force? investigating it, but due to it being high profile other police forces such as london met and various other regional forces made their top men available to help. Portugal doesnt appear to have this ability.

Then you look at the Woolmer murder(or whatever) the cricket guy called. Britain sent out some of their top people to investigate it.... as of yet I have not heard of them doing this on the current case, which says alot for the british police. They send someone publicly to investigate a "celeb" murder but not to investigate a young girls kidnap. Maybe portugal police wont allow them to help, but im sure if that was the case it would be all over the papers that they refused aid.

Now what I am going to say is very very harsh. But depending on the person and the reason this child was taken, they may be better off. As these apparently intelligent parents decided to leave 3 children of 3yrs old and under on their own. Using the excuse "we checked them every 30minutes" is not acceptable to me. If a child is in trouble 2 minutes after the check then they will be in serious trouble or dead by time the parents check on them 28minutes later as this proves.

These parents will be lucky if they get to keep their 18month old twins in my opinion, but hopefully they have learned their lesson and wont make such an error again.

Yes I hope the child is ok, and i hope that she is returned safely. IF she isnt found though, I hope that she is being treated with love and respect from whoever she is with and comes to no harm.
I will always have doubts on these parents though, more so because in media interviews/statements their level of distress seems rather low, not to imply they are involved, just makes me wonder how deeply they feel for the child when taken into account the fact they just left them alone. One thing is for sure, with their level of judgement I sure as hell wouldnt want them being my doctor.

Frustrating to say the least, I think the way that the Portugese police have dealt with this is shockingly bad. Then complaining at having _two_ high profile cases?? Fucking.. pleeease

edit:

Agreed, no parents should be leaving children of that age unsupervised for even a minute. :(

You are way out of your depth on this point. Britain has a long standing agreement with Jamaica and alot of the former British colonies regarding assistance with crime investigation when the host nation lacks either resources or facilities. We have no such agreement with Portugal and they will not ask for such assistance either, they are a proud nation and have some very smart investigators of thier own. As for your point on us offering help with celeb murders it is baseless, we often send our officers at the request of the former colonies to investigate murders of British citizens. Fame has nothing to do with it. If I was brutally murdered tomorrow in Jamaica my local police force Greater Manchester would recieve a request to send someone over there to help the Jamaican police with intelligence gathering and to act as a liaison between the U.K. and Jamaican police.

Yes, stating it was a celeb etc being the reason may have been a wrong comment there is an agreement regarding assistance which would be the primary reason they went. But would they have sent some of their better officers otherwise? Doubt they would but that just me and I think the fact that it was a high profile "celeb" case meant they felt the need to send who they did. But considering the thoughts of the public on this case, and how high profile it also is I would have at least thought an offer would be made and if they are struggling to cope as the media is suggesting (which of course will have british bias, i know) then proud or not, Im sure they would allow it on the condition that they follow the portugese law (main one being that they are not allowed to release information on possible suspects else the prosecution is screwed in the court case.)

Portugal say they are 'talking' with Europol, if this is the case then surely they would accept as much aid as we can offer? It would ease the pressure they are under, that is for sure. And for those that dont know about Europol, they can only get involved in cases where two or more member parties are involved (UK and portugal) and there has to be "factual indications that organised crime is involved". So if this is going on, more reason to get aid from the other party that is part of this.

And Chod, dont get me wrong. I got much respect for the police force over here. I often work with and trade information with them due to the work I am involved in. Just seems strange how there has been no publicised offer of help as far as im aware. Maybe there was an offer but they have kept it more quiet then other times.

Either way, dont think this child is going to be found unfortunately. The only way she will turn up is if she gets handed in by someone because whoever has her knows they get to do something fast due to the media frenzy it became. If she does get handed in, then they really need to look into the person doing it because likely they be linked to the crime and splitting a share of that 2.5million reward... but then maybe that me just being highly suspecious about the circumstances required for that.

Any offer or request for help would be done through back channels, Portugal will not make an official request for help as it would cause an outrage in the Portugeuse press. At the same time the U.K. would not make a formal offer of assistance because they want to show Portugal repspect, I am sure there has been some kind of talking going on though but it does seem that they think they can handle this case without our help so we have to stand back and let them get on with it.

Sadly I think you are right as well, I think the longer this has gone on the worse the odds become that she will be returned alive and unharmed. God willing I am wrong, nothing would please me more than to be wrong on this occasion.

As much as I feel incredible sorrow for the parents, I can't help think to myself: why would you go out and leave a 3 year old unattended ?

That poor girl. Jesus.

I totally agree, what gets me is that if it had been a single mother leaving her child then the newspapers would be slaughtering her right now but because they are a young professional couple earning great money alot of people seem scared to criticise them.

Well, i'm probably gonna be the nicest bestest loved person after this...

First off, the parents leaving kids for 30 minutes(don't know why what they did it for). Has to be done. You can't spend all your time with kids for a couple of reasons, one being that you need to do stuff to keep stuff going. Wouldn't want a single dad dying of poopie blockage 'cause he couldn't take a dump. That's that on the matter. But that's just on the matter of "parents should watch kids all the time, everytime, aaaalways.(<-madtv viewers might get it)

Now to the point EVERYONE will love. Would this be such a high profile case need if a 25 year old was missing? Nope. And why not? 'cause the smaller the kids are, the more overappreciated they are.

Guy shoots a 25 year old with a sniperrifle: Boo hiss murderer.
Guy kills a 3 month year old with a sniperrifle: Oh my god what a brutal uncaring bastard we should take his nuts and kill him by suffocating him with them!

Anyone else see a bit of a "hmm" in the matter?

tohtori, i think there is some stuff you dont realise.

one thing for example, the hotel offered a child care service. the parents chose not to use it. why? fuck knows, as stated they are apparently intelligent people and should of seen the benefits to such a thing. maybe they are just tighter than a ducks ass.

yes there would be a difference. for one a smaller kid isnt capable of caring for them selves, at least not a 3 yr old. their life depends on the decisions their parent makes for them. when the parent fucks up, we should feel sorry for the kid because they cant prevent it happening.

Like i said, i wasn't talking about parental care in the context of the story 'cause i don't know how they messed up(like parents do, just a fact). They probably did some things i might not agree on in this case, but can't say since i don't know about the case so much(link of the stuff would be nice btw). Was just commenting on parental care in general.

Yes, there's a difference in that way that parents are responsible for a smaller child, but again, i was talking about a different thing. Case importance.

Why is, in peoples minds, the life of a 3 year old more important then a 25 year old, when it comes to something being a high profile case or not?

Though, i don't understand, the need to feel more sorry for a young person over an old one, either.

EDIT: Why i don't understand might be that i see each person, no matter what, as similar importance on this anthill in the grand scheme. Good and bad in that thinking i know and not saying "Ooh i'm better".

Well leaving your kid in the next room where you can hear them, possibly see them, hear their movements and (anyone elses for that matter) to take a shit is a tad different to pissing off over the road for something to eat For 30 mins. (It's not just about watching your kids, but hearing out for them etc)

Leaving those kids was fucking dumb, if your on holiday with kids, well thats just tuff shit, you have kids, the rules don't change on holiday, if anything the rules should tighten.

I kinda agree with you, However children are less able to defend themselves stand up for themselves or use an oppertinutiy to swing the odds to their favour.

It's the defencless thing.

I agree that often media plays it up when bad things happen to young children. I don't know their reasons for this, but... following your way of thinking with all things equal and such, I suppose you could argue that the murder of a young child is "worse" because the murderer robbed the person of 75 years of life instead of only 50 or whatever.

If you want to look at it completely logical, that is.

Others might think that it's like scoring a goal before the other team even got a chance to get on the field. Or a boxer knocking the opponent while he's still sitting in his corner with a towel over his head. A train leaving ahead of schedule before the guy who just bought a ticket gets a chance to get aboard. It's all unfair, and stirs up anger.

Whatever the reason, I don't think it's entirely wrong that people and/or media care especially for victims that are young defenseless children. In a day and age when violence and death is so common in the news and people get more and more jaded, it's good to see that at least some things are still ... NO! I prefer that to the alternative, really.

tbh i think its stupid leaving kids on their own but ho hum.

I think it was last year, somewhere up north in the UK a little girl was snatched from her house, she was taking a bath at the time and her parent was there. She was taken and abused and they got her back but not before damage had been done.

My point is that sometimes stuff like this happens whether the kids are alone or your in the house with them, no one can (or shuld) be with (and i mean like in the same room as) their child 24hrs a day, it would inhibit the childs independance and increase the adults paranoia. There is no right or wrong, however I know I would blame myself to death if my child got taken whilst alone in the house and I hadn't provided a baby sitter. Theres that phrase "there was nothing you could have done" well maybe if there was supervision it might have prevented it, however maybe not.

no one knows do they?

i really hope she's ok but i really doubt it.

Well that IS dumb, and should kick them in the same cell as the vegan parents. With say, a divided sentence for both of 25 years? Now that's justice.

I suppose you could argue that the murder of a young child is "worse" because the murderer robbed the person of 75 years of life instead of only 50 or whatever.

I would actually say that younger people(say below 15) are better to be offed since they only have potential(to good or bad) and basicly ain't a lost asset.

But that would rile a couple of feathers...

Yeah, people are jaded these days. Not saying i am one, i just don't care really, but that's just my healthy dose of bastardism. I understand why people prefer to root for the 3year toddler, the defenceless thing and all, i just wished that the things in the media were just that. Media.

When they start reallocating police resources to save a 3year old instead of a 23, then i don't like it.

Apparently those fucks cant eat prison food, so they will starve themselves to death, that's my kinda justice. :) Madelines parents dunno tho, wait till the detail comes out I would hate to sentence them on numbers quoted in the press.
