I have no clue about what I need to do :(

I have an Efficient Networks 5930 Router, I need to set up port forwarding on it..... how on earth do I do it - every web page I have looked at turns into gibberish within seconds.

Got a horrible feeling its something to do with a internet page that allows it to be altered - if so - my mate originally gave me the router and set it up (if I am thinking along the right track) and I have no clue where to look or start - any idea's if this is right??

If the router has a web interface you will hopefully be able to get to it doing the following.

1. Click Start .... Run
2. Type cmd and click ok
3. Type ipconfig in the black box that appears
4. Jot down the set of 4 numbers, seperated by dots, that appear to the right of the words, Default Gateway
5. open Internet explorer and type the following into the location
http://<Default Gateway Address>/

e.g if you default gateway address is 192.168.1.1 then type http://192.168.1.1/ into your Internet Explorer browser.

Hopefully you will get a login page. From there you're on your own.

How do you know you need to forward any ports? What isn't working?

Doesn't sound very healthy to me....

If your router is blocking your web browser, which it shouldn't usually, you wouldn't get any web page, just an error message in your browser

No what I mean is all I can read turns to gibberish - i.e it goes well above my head - have kinda seen it done before etc but one of those things I just have never had to do, now I do need to to get my Slingbox working on my mobile phone :( works on the PC's in the house but can't remote access it yet :(

Worked a treat.... up until the point I realised I have no idea what the user id or password is set up as... and the dude who set it up I dont see much of anymore... arse.

Any way around that?

The manual for your router suggests:

User Name: superuser
Password: admin

But if he's changed it you'll have to track him down...

Whoaa... I have no idea what I kinda just did, but I clicked on some stuff, stuck some random'ish IP adds in (could have been one of 3 I had noted) and lo and behold its working...I think...better go find my mobile :)

Thanks again everyone...

p.s

I do use usegroups but this was to stream Sky TV to my mobile phone - so I can watch Liverpool's game whilst in the office 2moro :)
