1) Loads man! The shelves are full!

2) Quite a few, placed in plain view.

3) A couple of copies, hidden in a corner behind Diablo II.

4) Couldn't find a copy, the kid behind the desk said they sold out months ago and aren't getting any more in :(

5) They sell it in stores? Wow! Never seen it.

Personally, I find that 4 is the case, at least in Belfast city centre, with chances of finding a copy anywhere in the outskirts = slim to bugger all.

I live in a small town up north here in Sweden, and actually, I have seen several copies of it in several stores.

Luleå is a city where a lot of ppl play EQ, actually we have the most players of EQ/capita here, so its no real surprise we have a good stock of mmorpgs in the stores over here.

There's one store in this province which sells DAoC copies, but it's kind of a criminal city (for the Dutchies: Heerlen) and some (i'd rather not offend any nations) felt like walking into the store with 10 people and stole every game and threaten the employees with baseball bats  :puke: :puke:

I got my copy from amazon.co.uk, didn't bother with searching around for days.

4)

Our local EB or now Game as its so orignially called (/sarcasm) only bought in 10 copies, aint seen a copy since.

Saying that, I see EQ, UO and other games on the shelf gathering dust now, apart from the "now down to..." price tags that get replaced monthly.

What about advertising, apart from browsing specialist web sites and the odd snippit in games mags, there aint a lot, I got it from a m8 who had the beta, i think Mythic need to pump up the hype a lil if SI is gonna keep us glued to the game.

Only time I ever saw a copy of it in store was in EB in May. It was the only one there and I bought it :D . Since then I haven't seen it in any stores, but DAOC was shipped to the UK in limited supplies...don't know why

Manchester UK, never seen a copy on a shelve in any of over 20+ computer stores in and around the city. GAME Manchester had 5 copies on day of release and according to a guy who worked they have only sold another 5 copies since. Pretty poor really :(

Last time I was at the Fnac on the Champs-Elysees to buy some DVDs a couple of weeks ago they had plenty of copies on the shelf. I'd say 2)

So, outside of the UK it seems that seeing copies of the game in stores is quite common, but seeing a copy in the UK is less common than seeing a cabalist in Emain?

Well you can thank the exclusive distribution deal GOA signed with EB/Game for high street sales. It really sucks as then EB never put any effort into pushing it, and the deal prevents any other chain from doing so either.

I just hope GOA don't go down the same route with SI.

GAME's policy is that people don't buy old games. And they're generally right. Once the initial rush has subsided they don't restock unless there is continued demand. They'll only start putting copies back on the shelves when SI comes out - which is why SI is so important for the game.

Ironically, my copy of DAOC has 'First Edition' emblazened on the cover (I'd not seen that on a game before). It might just have well had 'Only Edition'.

Having said that, I don't actually think it's the distributors that have held back DAOC in the UK. If there was the demand then there would be distribution. There just aint the demand.

Let's just hope that the magazine reviewers look favourably on SI and that it generates some demand. But I'm not hopeful - if anyone has held back MMORPGing in the UK it's the mainstream gaming press (who gave DAOC about as much attention as a half-baked Half Life mod).

AFAIK There was a frist edition with a predominantly brown cover sporting the First Edition phrase - I have one of these having bought it on day of release.

Then there is the more commonly spotted version which is predominantly blue and is the one you see on all advertising etc.

Oh and as for copies - Checked HMV Oxford Street (Bond Street one) and they had about 4 copies behind each other kind of hidden on the main set of shelves. No real chance of them getting seen or sold tbh.

Seen it in one or two of the larger stores hidden at the back somewhere. Funnily enough tho, it was the American Edition.

Hmm 3/4 - my local Game franchise has it but dont think it was on display anymore - dirt cheap now too!

It was never advertised in the UK - I only knew about it since as a fan of MMORPG's I like to check up on games in development and thought this looked cool :)

Hmm... I have reguraly seen copies of Baldurs Gate 1 (yes, ONE  ) on shelves with numbers far exceeding DAoC.

I myself purchased the last copy that GAME in Belfast City Centre had about 3 months ago for my second account (last being the last copy they ordered in, and it was sitting there for about 2 months).

EB had a deal with GOA where they advertised and promoted DAoC in-store for the release day.

However, on the release day, I phoned EB to check that they had copies in, and they told me the game hadn't been released yet, the servers weren't up, and it was another month before it was due.

Then I got handed a copy by my flatmate who had bought a copy for Loco to ship it over to him, and I bought a replacement for Loco.

So, not very good promotion by a company whose stores don't even know the game was out.

PC Gamer had a very good, 6 page review of DAoC about 2 weeks before release day, and were pushing teh game quite well (coverdisk for beta) but after the release, I haven't seen much sign of the game in it.

Alot of people have asked me where to get a copy of the game (dozens) and I have said to try Game, and if not available, to try Amazon.co.uk, but people sometimes don't want to bother with Amazon, due to wanting a game there and then.

We all know that the problem the 2 English servers have with population can be brought down to poor availability of the game in stores, and poor handling of the merchandising by the supposed release day partner (EB).

Yes, I agree that SI will boost DAoC again, but doubtful whether it will bring new players, without proper advertising.

Umm 3.5

We used to see the odd copy hidden about 4 games back on the shelves, but haven't seen one for a bloody long time.

Haven't asked tho, so maybe they are available.

Yeah its a bit odd the game isnt been sold anywhere, after the release it sold out in fast and they ordered another batch here and those were on the shelf for a bit longer... havent seen the game anywhere lately.

Its a good thing though? I mean no games, means they sold, unless they are keeping them in store for some nefarious conspiracy we arent supposed to know about...
