Now that my 3 and a half year military career is coming to an end I was thinking of joining the rozzers to continue my pension plan and not get stuck in a dead end crappy job. Only problem is I can't seem to find any information on joining up. The Airforce provided hundreds of leaflets, booklets and were happy to answer questions in their dedicated careers offices but the police force have nothing. So I was just wondering if you guys know of any coppers and what their opinions of the job is so I could get an idea of what I'd be getting myself into.

paperwork is on the increase in all jobs so that doesn't bother me too much. Paperwork in the military is on the increase now only it tends to effect your life more, I shudder to think how much money I've missed out on because they kept changing the system.

I work for the police, in IT obviously :D, and that seems to have all the jobs available on it. There might be a freeze on recruitment due to the amount given to the police has been changed and the finance is a bit tight.

also, unless you are a member of a minority group you should expect to be discriminated against. Yes, you read that right.

Right on Trem, my brother-in-law works for old bill and he said the same. Pushing pencils. Infact, I get the feeling that it crosses their minds not to nick people simply because the vast overhead on paperwork is demotivating for a petty crime.

There was a job going doing just that but I didn't have the guts to apply. :)

My mate works for the old bill in Feltham which is quite a rough area, but he quite likes it and thinks its a good job.

Mind you, he used to work for me, so I expect anything will seem good :)

A mate is a copper, he's enjoying it. It's something i'd probably consider, but don't particularly fancy 2 years (minimum) of walking round with every drunken goit spewing on you, plus all the shit you'd get from most people.

Nothing like a bit of stereotyping is there?

lol @ brooky

I have a friend who works for them, he really enjoys it, although he says the beat stuff can get boring at times. Once he's done his 3(i think?) years probation stuff, he wants to specialise, ie dogs/helicopters/guns/road/race driving/horses which is where from my perspective the job would get more interesting assuming you do something that interests you.

My ex is a CSPO, or whatever those community police officers are called, and absolutely loves it. He gets paid decent money, and to do what he terms 'all the exciting stuff like attending stabbings, and chasing crims down on a push bike,' but isn't actually allowed to do the majority of the associated paper work. Seems ideal to me!

How long do you have to walk the beat for before you can go into specialty. I'd take traffic as I'm qualified to drive almost anything and know the associated laws for specific vehicles.

You'd have a job getting into Traffic, since most forces don't see it as a priority :( Shame really, what with people dying and all.
