Terminology.

Start small. Use only 1/10th of your "capital" in games. Say you put in 20 bucks, use two until you have 4. If you lose the two, use 1.8 bucks next time. Until you're back at 2. That's until you start winning actually and learn the game. You'll get a lot more hands and playtime this way and won't lose ALL at once.

Try out tournaments, sit'n'go tourneys, cash games and find your "niche". Very different games those. You might not have the mind stamina for a 4 hour tourney, but you might shine in sit'n'go.

Never go all in with your last cash unless you're absolutely positive you'll win. Sure it might be a powermove, but there's always one looney who'll call, you'll loose/get a bad beat and be pissed off.

Never play angry, tired, sad, drunk. Same as with driving or any other work thing, you need your full attention here.

Eat right. Yeah, i know, it's not THAT serious but if you eat a big meal before a tourney, you'll end up losing your cash because you're tired, full, etc.

Throw away hands, an ace 7 might look nice, but what if the other guy has ace-king? A Queen-jack even, and an ace doesn't come. Cards arn't that great after the flop, play the game "by the moment". If you have a pair of aces, you could slowplay them(only call and not raise), but then again your opponent might flop three of a kind and you're stuck there.

THERE. ARE. NO. MIRACLE. SAVE. CARDS.

Sure those cards come around every now and then, when you make an inside straight(basicly fill a straight in the middle), but most the time, NOT GONNA HAPPEN.

If you see you're losing(have nothing after the flop), just check or fold. You'll probably save more money this way. Ofcourse at later stages you might learn how to stpo someone bluffing, making weak bets, repeat bets. But at first you want to be cautious.

Oh yeah, when you start losing. Like, ALL THE TIME. Say get bad beats(someone kills your big hand) twice in a row, and have been losing cash all night. Just Stop. Stop stop stop. Come back another day, later in the day, you won't win. It's just how it goes. While money comes to money, bad hands come to bad hands.

Bet gamah will tell more, that's just a few.

Two Plus Two Publishing is a great forum with many links for just about any type of poker player.

Also atm i'm reading a book called " kill Phil" about SNG's and MTT's ( got it for free with some frequent player points on pokerstars) and it looks decent enough to.

maybe i misunderstood the first tip, but from what i could make of it its not a good tip at all i think..

Its verry true you should never play over your limits ( for example with my $1500 bankroll i don't go over $11 buyin SNG's, to cover bad beats etc) but once you sit down at a cash game table you must be willing to commit your whole stack at the right time ( wheter its an all in bluff, or a good chance to double up..)

Having those $20bucks to gamble with, its not a good idea to pump it all into one table and saying " i'm only gonna use $2 of those to bet with" etc, caus that will never ever work..

( example : you raise 5 times the big blind on the button with AK suited, going heads up with the only one caller. flop AK6 different suits.. you will feel you have the best hand and bet out, now thats about it for those $2 your supposed to use, still the other guy comes over the top with a big raise.. you don't want to give up here do you? still following the 1/10 rule you have to..
On the other hand if you call it and there is this verry off chance he has flopped a set your screwd and you just went trough your whole $20 that was supposed to last you a while..)

What i would do with those $20 is play 3 $0.05/$0.10 NL tables at the same time sitting down with $6 on each table..
Caus your playing 3 tables you will get enough action so your not gonna call stuppid things due to boredness, and even than if you get a big bad beat ( you will always get those from time to time) you can still use one of the other tables to recover from your loss..

Hope it helps

Well Gins i meant you shouldn't bring all your cash into a table when you're starting poker.

Playing only 1/10th of your whole bankroll is a wise move, so you don't get a bad beat and lose all and f*ck up your whole experience.

Ofcourse when you go into a 0.05/0.10 table with that 2 bucks, you should be willing to push it all in if the need be.

Also playing three tables at a beginner level is a really bad idea. Sure, when you learn the ropes and get easier about it, you can start adding tables.

Also, have to say, no matter if you have 10k or 3 bucks, well maybe with 3 bucks, but let's say 30, you shouldn't play all of it at one time. EVER.

Well thats true if you never ever have played poker in your entire life, but you don't need to have infi experience to multi table..
I think for newer players multi tabling will even give you a bigger chance to win you some mony than just playing 1 table.
Only caus newer players usually don't have much patience, and might value starting hands Vs possition diferently..
When playing 3 tables your kinda forced to only play your quality hands, and it won't feel to bad to fold lets say AJ in early possition after a raise and a re-raise.
Thus saving you a lot of mony + your gaming experiance will go up ( well for me anyway)

I can be wrong, but thats what worked for me.. if your not comfortable playing X tables at once, just don't do it.

Not at all, thats exactly why it will help you to play more at the same time..
Can't expect a newer player to start counting outs Vs pot odd's etc eh, multi tabling just helps you fold a lot more hands, and thats more than often the right all if your a bit insecure..

But again, to each his own.. if it was that good of a player i'd still be i vegas shagging prossy's with all the mony i recently won in the wsop!
