Question Pokemon, how can it still be selling so well?

Never understood the whole Pokemon thing and suprised it is still going after all these years but I just noticed that the latest version sold 900,000 copies last week and has done 3.5 million copies sold in the two weeks it has been on sale. Fucking madness it is. I know the Japanese are all nuts and eat that shit up but really I cannot get my head around why something so crap is such a phenomenon.

Am I just a grumpy old fuck who doesn't get it or is Pokemon really the piece of shit I think it is?

I loved it on the gameboy and play it now and again on my phone (via an emulator) its quite addictive really.
