Not quite up there with the larger SLRs. I am looking for a decent small compact camera to take away on hols.

Preferably ~£100

I was looking at the Sony W690 or the Samsung DV300F

Why not a SLR? I simply dont need one, i want something small enough to be stuck in a pocket, but decent enough to take a nice detailed picture. Face tracking is something i am keen on, wifi and such not so much....

Any suggestions or comments on the two above?

I have a little Samsung camera, can't remember the model number...was about £150 a year ago and looks the same as the one you have mentioned - mine doesn't have Wi-fi so might be an older version.

Very good little camera for the money.

I think that Sony is the.one the GF has. Its a nice little camera, easy to use and takes good pics. Hers was an ex display model for 85 quid from the local Sony centre, but there's not a mark on it. Pretty sure it's got a Zeiss lens too, if that sort of thing is important, also got face tracking and smile detection. Her sister has a Nikon, and tbh it isn't as nice, interface is a bit clunky.

It sounds like he has infected his girlfriend with his Sony AIDS as well. :(

panasonic tz series are worth a look, my tz20 is acouple of years old and my 4yr old son took it with him on his mid term holiday with his grandparents and he had no problem using it with the IA mode and vid recording has its own button . still took pics fine with a few fionger prints he had on the lens
