... as performed by Stina Handfast at an early age, and reenacted by Mörke Handfast (sharing only name with the famous one), on a poetry evening with the Keepers of Bifrost, ages ago it seems...

Here follows a tale about the first kobold, from whom a certain other got his name...

Long ago, when the world was young
And gods did walk as common men
in Midgard's forests, hills and dales
In every grove, in every glen

When songs of joy was sung by all
by bird and fish and man and beast
when no man was another's thrall
and every day was full of feast

The first of kobolds, blue in skin
emerged from halls beneath the earth
from there he walked with all his kin
embraced the land in all it's mirth

He met with troll and dwarf and norse
who welcomed him with joy and ease
despite his lack of brutal force
and though he barely reached their knees

For soon the times grew grim and dark
and giants marched into the land
when all seemed lost, our friend embarked
out on a quest, so very grand

The king of giants, Thangadrim
who stood as tall as fifteen men
with poisoned claws on every limb
and every muscle a bulging ben

Our kobold climbed up on his leg
unseen, unfelt, unheard by him
With dagger poised to, like a peg,
drive it deep in Thangadrim

The blade went deep into the neck
the giant tumbled like a stone
a joyful end to kobold's trek
a mighty hero, though shortly grown

And every creature of the land
Praised this kobold, gave him fame
The giant fell by his blue hand
And know, that Mörke was his name.

I like that....very midgardian.

I can see that being told to children as they go to sleep :)
