Please Help, Im desperate!!!

Hi. I can not play Unreal T over the net.

I have downloaded all the files Barrysworld told me to.

In Half Life you can type in the address of servers ('add server') but in UT things seem so much more complicated. I go to 'favourites' and select 'New favourite'.

I am trying to add the BW servers to the list to no avail. In the box you have to type the IP address then a separate box is fot the port. But there are two..!?

I know the port number is the last 4 numbers in the address after the colon, but why two spaces for port numbers! HELP!

Are both port numbers the same..!? (the second one says 'query port')

Anyway, every time I added a server it couldnt have ben right as there were no players on any of them, and it gave a ping of anything between 20 and 10'000. Now that cant be right.

So I searced all the servers in the main list, and found a couple of BW servers, but when I tried to connect my computer kept downloading files form the servers. Well, I thought U only needed the patch and those 2 bonus packs to play on the BW servers so whats going on? What do I REALLY need to play online!?

Even when the files had finished, I was graced with the message 'connection failed'... WHY!? I was obviously connected to be downloading the bloody files!!

Im not stupid, but I just cant get this to work!!

Man, Counterstrike is well easy compared to this!

I was looking forward to getting in to a new Online game, but this has really spoilt it.... :O(

I'd be really greatful of any help. Has anyone else had these problems!? Cheers...

You have got all he neccisary files, but sometimes the servers run custom maps, which can usually be got in the other two bonus packs.
The reason why you get the 'connection failed' message is usually because someone has joined the server and taken your spot while you were downloading the files.

also you have all the CSHP or UTPure to d/l.

maybe mapvote, but all these file are relativly small. The only big files you will need to d/l are the maps.

Ok , here goes

New favorites -

Don't put anything in the name field , let it auto-name ( tick the box )

Add the ip address

Add the port ( as shown )

QUERY port is PORT + 1

eg is port if 7777 , query port is 7778

Other way to do it , if browse the listings , find the one you want , and right click it , select add to favourites.

As for downloading from the servers :- you need all the files stated , and has been explained by other posts , you will also get any extra bits that have been added - maps , skins , textures , sounds , anti-aimbot code(s) , map-votings , customs logos.

The only big parts in all these are maps , textures , sounds. Everything else will be less than 1mb on average.

As for 'Connection failed' it can mean a few things :

- last spot taken on the server so no more players allowed

- server you were trying to connect to changed map

All you need to do is reconnect if it's a map change.

BUT , if you havn't finished the server downloads , and they stopped at say 70% , you have to redo from start. ( a pain in the (_V_) i know , i can't remember number of times i've been disconnected at 99% :/ )

I can't believe you said HL/CS is easier than UT to get online but I guess it depends what you're used to!!! For me, UT was a real breath of fresh air having a cool server browser and IRC chat facility built in. Shame they didn't/couldn't (Gamespy...) put player search facilities in but hey ho!

Half Life is way easy to get online!

But you're right, spose its what uare used to...

Had a few good games of UT but it seems to be quite laggy. Still good though. Shame theres never anyone on the BW CTF servers though, coz CTF is my favourite...
