And this is what people don't realise. The Middle eastern oil is refined and stored in the SOUTH of the country. So unless your in the north of england (just above the NW and NE) then your petrol will be rationed. The rest of us get our fuel from different depots, so were fine. :D

Not if I send Cabbage down, he will drink all your petrol and diesel in a few hours!

I wouldn't bother. We have a fleet of women in 4x4's that can't drive. We'll have depleted stocks within a week.

read my post i didnt say they shouldnt amd they may not want our sympathy but if they dont have that its unlikely theyll garner our support either, prices already bleedin gone

But they dont need your support either. They want their pensions. And the average man is not going to do anything for them out of compassion, but he just might if he cant drive to work.

Nah that isn't right bud, Brown's extention of the cycle it is a contributing factor to the current situation. He extended the cycle so he could borrow more private money so he didn't have to raise taxes at the last election. That extra borrowing has resulted in 10's of billions extra on the national debt and now the government has had to start finding extra revenue to finance that debt which means higher taxes through the abolition of the 10% tax rate and many other stealth tax rises such as fuel duty. This all stems from those changes he made in 2003 and 2004 which helped to buy Labour the 2005 election with tax sweetners and extra money for public services. We are all paying for that right now and it couldn't have come at a worse time with all the other world economic problems going on. We are seeing large cost of living rises across the board, far beyond the fixed inflation figures the goverment are putting out.

I disagree to an extent

If you look at govt. spending over the last years, it has increased substantially. That isn't taxing - it's bonds issued by the govt. to pay off the bonds it has already issues to pay off the bonds it has already issued and so on and so forth. Taxing has found it's way in somehow, but to directly relate to the economic cycle would be hard, if not impossible, because the naughties have brought over so many complex and intertwining problems.

The abolishment of the 10% tax rate has it's pluses and negatives and I don't think many people realise that. Unfortunately, it has hit a nail in the poor man's coffin, for they have to be pay more. But this tax WILL keep a lot of people on high incomes in the country. This is essential because they pay ridiculous amounts of income tax and contribute a lot to our economy. We don't want to lose them, or have them resort to cheesy means of escaping taxes.

I do agree that there have been a lot of tax increases, and this issue with the oil/petrol, not to mention the events over the last year, have made labour a lot of money. Part of starting the next cycle with high borrowing has led to problems, and to an extent, yes I agree, it was due to the elections (but hey - lib dem. and conservative would only do the same).

I think what a lot of people fail to see about labour is that they have justified their taxes. We have had VERY healthy levels of economic growth, so much so that other countries have been envious of us. Unemployment has been very low and up until lately, the economy has been very stable and very profitable. Unfortunately, of course, in economics, what comes up, must come down. The reason question however - is how much does it come down and can Labour whack it back into motion.

The support from normal people doesnt do anything for them because the normal people cba to do anything about it. So the only weapon they have is putting pressure on the goverment.
