Returned for manufacturers attention. Basically broken and then repaired. ;)

Chronic is trying to say that Microsoft are counting the repaired consoles as new sales but he is utterly and comprehensively wrong. The sales figures are being counted indepently from the retail channel and are not Microsoft generated figures.
i didnt say that, i said when they quoted their UNITS SHIPPED, they didnt soley base it on their sales figures

Now your seeing it from a Sony point of view find the part of the fight you win and swear its important :)

And were not my figures heres what i read PS3 turns one year old, outsells Wii in Japan last week - Engadget double sales in the states and out selling the Wii (yes because Wii sold out but that is there fault

I bet if you add the PS2 scores and just had a SONY it would pwn in market share :)

PS2 still sells great but that isn't suprising given the price and the awesome back catalogue of games.

Yes Sony did double thier PS3 sales in November for the U.S. but Microsoft still won by 150,000 consoles and that gap looks like being even larger this month due to heavy discounting and great value 360 bundles. One thing to point out, the PS3 may marginally outsell the 360 this month in Europe but in the states it is looking like a another crushing victory for the 360. With the states being over 35% of the world gaming market that is a battle that Sony cannot afford to lose but it does look like they have lost a second successive Christmas.

Those sales figures are almost identical to the units shipped. Why only 'almost'? Because Microsoft have given away many 1000's of units to the US army for soliders in Iraq plus many have been used for promotional stuff like shop demonstration units. Units shipped is...

Units sent into the retail channel
Units given away
Promotional units

Sold consoles have nothing to do with quality in this case. I does with the PS2 as that thing is obviously the best sixth gen console. But with the early 7'th gen console figures, with the Wii on top...
The Wii is a faux next gen system, a gimick that prints money for Nintendo. I reckon the sales figures vs quality compares to the fast food world;
If sales were the deciding factor in quality, McDonalds would have the best burgers in the world... BS.
The 360 has an unbeliveable brickrate. +30%, their tray breaks, and people complain about the loud diskdrives.
Don't get me wrong, the 360 is a good console, and XBL is great (albeit a fucking cesspool of halo playing 13 year olds with foul mouths). I purely and simply believe that the console can not follow the PS3 once both system max out their potential.

It says they are estimates not the real figures?

NPD compiles the data based on sales figures from large retail chains like Best Buy and Walmart. These are the estimates and the hard figures will emerge in the new year but these figures are the industry standard, 99% of games magazines and industry publications use NPD figures because they have proven to be the most accurate year after year.

No sell-through in this instance refers to the amount of units actually sold and not the amount of units shipped to retail which is what MS/Ninty/Sony base as thier sales figures.

Sell-through - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Oh and yes, those Wii numbers are insane. I wonder how many of those sales would have gone to Sony and Microsoft if the Wii hadn't had the fancy controller? Either way it is really hurting the sales of both, Sony in particular given thier financial situation and thier massive investment in PS3 R&D. The PS3 project is going to take an awful lot longer to break even than the PS2 did, thats for sure.

whats up with DS numbers? :eek2:

Gameboy has always been a phenomenon as far as sales go and the DS is just following that trend. What amazes me is that no one seems really interested in fighting Nintendo the bulk of that market. Before anyone says the PSP you need to realise that was a half hearted attempt by Sony, the marketing and development for the platform has been a joke at times. Nintendo haven't missed a beat with the DS though, techincally inferior (ala Wii) but software that people want to play equates to a huge portion of the handheld market.

60 million DS at least in circulation now, the PSP has done ok but it isn't even close to being the cash cow the DS is.
