Not everyone downloads movies illegally, and there is a big difference between bluray/hd-dvd and normal dvd's.
Blockiness is very obvious on my tv (which is only 40", i imagine its even more evident on bigger screens), this is with scaling and my set on lower settings (720p)
The quality is noticably better in HD


You cant play blu ray discs, which have have big retailers behind it the same as HD-DVD.
If the titles you want are on blu ray, a ps3 is one of the cheapest players out there
If the titles you want are on HD-DVD, get a hd dvd drive and plug it into your pc/360

I have no alliegence to any console/brand, i have a wii because i wanted mario galaxy, i have a 360 because i wanted mass effect and i will likely buy a ps3 because i want mgs, ff and gt

Chodax, less fanboi'ism you cant use units as a justification one way or the other because you dont know what proportion is refurbs and replacements, i doubt micrsoft will ever release them either but im betting the number is a very big proportion. In comparison the ps3 looks, feels and is better made and manufactured to a higher quality but has its own set of drawbacks as we all know

Reminds me of the 3DO. Just because it may be cheap as an all singing and all dancing multimedia super machine doesn't mean it's going to an instant success - especially if it's overpriced as a games console.

The PS1 was a great games console. The PS2 was a great console with a DVD player, a format which everyone was slowly moving into. The PS3 is still technically a great console, but they would've been far more successful if they didn't use this as a tool for an HD format war.

The PS3 isn't winning in ANY region, the 360 has outsold it almost 3 to 1 in the U.S. and around 1.5 to 1 in Europe.

Of much more significance though is the attach rate, for the last 9 months the 360 has had higher software sales than Wii and PS3 combined! Thats right, the 360 sells more games per console than any other console in history, Why? Because it has such a strong catalogue of titles and literally every month of 2007 we have had another top quality game which is something the PS3 can not claim. Even delaying the console release by a year hasn't given them enough time to get the games out and now all the PS3 fanbois are bleating 'it is all about Christmas 2008!'. Yep, the same people who said it was all about 'Christmas 2007' a year ago when they thought they would have new Metal Gear Solid, Gran Tourismo and Final Fantasy games.

They were delayed But i would rather get MGS 6 months late they have it rushed out like Halo. Multiplayer might be great but the game was a let down. It is not my Sony said saying it was a anti climax it is the hardcore 360 gamers i know.

And i was not clear sorry I did not mean total sales but the last cuple of months PS3 has won Japan it might be because Nintendo are still under producing for the market but us Sony fans will take whatever win we can get.

HD content looks noticably better than standard dvd's, even when upscales - fact
Blu ray has a significant number of major studios behind it including Disney, Fox, Lionsgate, MGM, Sony, Warner Bros - fact
HD-DVD has a significant number of major studios behind it including Universal, Warner, Paramount and Canal Studios - fact
PS3 is one of the cheapest blu ray players out there - fact
Xbox has/had a high failure rate - fact

The ps3 looks and feels better is subjective, however its build quality being better than a 360 is also fact, indicated by the significantly lower faiure rate

not all 360's have a hdd, so the fact you didnt want to buy anything makes the point mute really in addition to the catalogue being pretty small

edit: in addtion you still wont be able to get the blu-ray exclusives from there so you would still need a blu-ray player as its the same liscencing as HD-DVD's afaik

I was joking i think its a good idea i really like HD Movies i think i have 18 blu rays now tanks to the 3 for 2 offers so if they were downloadable at high quality and a good price i would be all for it.

Actually the point i was arguing was that you said a blu-ray player was pointless, i said that you couldn't legally download the movies in HD that are on the blu-ray format (although ym fault really as i worded it pretty poorly on reflection)

I think it is very microsoft biased, reading it i felt like he was trying to justify the 360 rather than objectively review the 2 so took it with a pinch of salt

yes its easier to program for, but it was the same for the p2 vs xbox, and look at the amazing games they are still making for it today
It was near the end of the life of the original playstation when they reached pretty much its full potential, in that respect i have all faith in sony they support their older consoles rather than throwing them away and moving to the next gen like microsoft.
Although atm its no contest, 360 wins hands down when it comes to games

That makes PS3 third, by a long long long way. Infact it means the 360 has sold more than double the PS3. Now I am sure you will say that the 360 has been out longer but in the largest region (United States) the PS3 has only outsold the 360 in ONLY 2 out of the last 12 months so 360 sales are still VERY STRONG even 2 years after release. For the last 3 months the PS3 has been a distant third over there even after the price cut. Sony say 'PS3 sales have jumped 250%!' but they don't tell you that Wii totally sold out and 360 still sold 150,000 consoles more than the PS3 just in America for the month of October!
