Like title says, is it possible to play using the catacombs client straight from the CD? so theres no trace of it on my hdd.

Saves me diskspace since my HDD isn't mega big, and I use it for my FTP and so on and so forth.

I know i wouldnt be able to use a standard 700mb CD, what about a DVDR tho? if i bunged it all onto the dvdr and patched straight from drive D (CD Drive)

thanks :)

Don't think so, and it would be mega mega mega slow even if it was possible. (Which I think it isn't)

you can easily try it... burn a cd to an image of your catacombs folder, and mount it using daemon tools. (or try a dvd-rw ofcourse ;))
but yeah, it would be quite slow ofcourse since dvd-speed isn't harddrivespeed but you should only notice that during loading really...

(btw, I also doubt it to be possible because the updater wants to write to drive and so do the login thingy, and the game itself..)

No the game loads textures as it goes along hence the inc lag and inc lag on towers etc. So these would be massive off a dvd.

plus, u wont be able to change any settings or QB settings at all as they all modify files that will be on the CD. and ofcourse, as stated above, the inc lag would be horrible beyond belief.

It probably is possible using APPEND, but like everyone has said above its gona be slow. I doubt you'd fit the entire game on a CD anyway.

if you have 4 gb of memory you can create a ram drive and install it there, will be faster then harddisk as well.. then again new harddisk would be cheaper and easyier ...

Well you could just get an external harddrive or a network mountable one and plug it straight into a HUB. Or is money a problem? Obviously it is if you can not even buy another new Hard Drive.... Dont spend money on DVD's and get a 80gig hard drive for around £30
