This is supposed to make the national team better. But that is bollocks. How dose giving 120+ players who were not good enough the season befor starting places in the premier leaugue make for the England team improving

They say if more English players played in great teams they might improve but if you reduce the quality of the leauge by having 6 english players it will just be like replacing the Premier Leaugue with the Coke Leauge.

If this dose happen i think they should start by demanding 3 English Players in your starting 11 that still means 60 english players and it should not affect the quality of the Premiership imo

Playing top flight football makes you a better player bud because you end up playing against much better opposition and have to raise your game to compete. This is why the big clubs loan so many youngsters out, nothing beats first class experience. Why do you think the likes of Ronaldo, Owen, Giggs, Rooney, etc all developed in to such good players so young? It is because they were all given regular first team football due at a very young age.

Short term yes, long term maybe not. English youngsters will get more oppurtunites at top class football and we will see more quality youngsters being given the chance to shine. Right now they are being blocked by foreign labour and it is hurting the national game. Not just here but in all the major leagues, there is a serious lack of young talent playing at the highest level because it is less of a risk to invest in a cheaper more experienced foreign player. It keeps the quality high short term but it hurt the national side in the process.

You want the perfect example?

Scotland in the 1990's, loads and loads of foreign players arrive, young Scots get blocked out and lose the chance of developing into international players because they don't get the top level coaching or chances to prove themselves.

The result, the worst Scottish team in probably 40 years. They are only starting to tutn things around now because all the big money signings have dried up and they have been forced to play young Scots. They beat France with those kids and hopefully they will continue to shine now that they can get regular top flight football at Scottish clubs.

I just can't see that happening to England at teh moment all most teh whole England squad plays here anyway and its just not true to think that if you had to have a player because he was English it would improve quality because you have to lower the stadards to fit him in just because hes English.

If a young player is good enough he gets a contact gets noticed and gets a transfer to a big club. Again i can't belive there are David Beckhams out there not being noticed because of foreign players.

Like you said erlier teh best thing for a young player is playing games so the way it works not is perfect a lower league team discovers him gives him game then a 1st division team notices him buys him he plays there. The a Permiership team say hold on hes abit tasty and buys him.

If every team has to have 6 english players thats at least 120 to pick a squad of 20 over kill. Like i said i think maybe saying you have to play 3 english players is a happy medium.

The other thing that could happen of course is we get teh 6 players the league loses quality starts to get stale where Chek$ki and Man U have the england team between them and dominate the other teams fall behind. The the Leauge starts to lose money from tv deals ect and Top foreign talents think why would we play there its not a good leauge lets go to italy. So we end up with two teams who get players and have the national squad and then the rest who are nowhere. Dose that sound like the leauge anywhere close? And like you said there national team is not doing very well from playing mainly home grown talents in the leage. This is speculation but so is saying it will make things better

I have disliked the way that the Champion's League has worked for a long time now, since they changed the number of teams that can qualify in to it. At one point the competition meant some thing more than just money. I read in that report about how it is broadcast over dozens of nations in its current format, and while this is good for bringing revenue in to the game it seems to me that all the major revenue is going to the same teams year in and year out.

Living in England I find that we value the underdogs more so than most countries. We love it when a team of lesser standing topples a huge club, the proverbial giant-killing. But the way things are going that is never ever going to happen in the European competitions ever again. Gone most likely are the days when teams like Red Star Belgrade, Steaua Bucharest, Aston Villa or my own beloved Nottingham Forest are ever going to get close to the famous trophy.

I also dislike the way that the competition rewards those that finish 3rd in the group while those that finish bottom are waved bye-bye and thank you very much. Letting the 3rd place teams parachute in to UEFA cup diminishes that competition for the teams that have fought hard to reach the 3rd round proper (I believe it is the 3rd round this happens, some one correct me if I am wrong).

As for the limit on foreign players. My opinion is that in the European cups then yes, there should be a limit on foreign players as you are not only playing for the pride of the club, but also representing the nation in my view. The fact that Arsenal on several occassions played a team with not a single English player in it a bit of a disgrace as well as a farce. The domestic league, maybe not so strict on it though the fact that there's a limit in Europe might trickle down in to the domestic leagues.

Wage caps I am all for as the over-inflated money being splashed around on single players is ridiculous and insane. Most of the teams outside of the Premiership already HAVE to do this in order to stay afloat. Also I can see some of the teams that are dominating the league actually having financial issues later in the clubs life.

By the way, just my views on the whole issue. I get very heated when it comes to the Champion's League. Yes I would love it if Forest got in to the cup and even won it, but I would still feel that the cup has lost some of its value.
