Don`t worry by 2009 Chelski will be known as Indebtski after the drug money runs out .The only chance you`ll get of being in Europe will be pre season friendlies vs Norwegian div 3 teams.

OT: Its good that it`ll be cutback to 3 teams. The longer the bigger teams carry on getting richer the worse it gets for football. They should also rename it.Champions League when you finish 3rd?

I always though it should just be the champions anyway the name really gives it away for me.

And fingers crossed it will be back to the big 3 by then as your owner keeps sacking people real madrid style and you start to fall down the table :)

It's bad news for the chasing pack ie Bolton/Spurs etc

With only 3 CL spots up for grabs, the "big" 4 will br scrapping it out for the 3 places.

They should re-instate the cup winners cup, have 1 spot per champion of each nation in the european cup and basically let 2nd 3rd 4th into the UEFA cup. They really need to do something to make the UEFA cup a major competition again, there are just far too many ordinary sides in there at the moment.

At the moment it will only affect Arsenal as we are 4th now we would lose out were we are safe at the moment. It still belive come the end of the seson the gap between 4th and 5th will rule out any one else

Like i said i would like to see it as just the champions as i think like when liverpool won it they were 4th in the English leaugue and countrys like scotland miss out because they get beat in the qualification.

I would like to see the leaders of each country play in knockout games till there is a winner.

100% agreed, even though it would mean my beloved United would have missed out on 3 years of Champs League football it would have returned prestige to all the euro trophies and the domestic cups as well.

The big four has been the big four almost since the premiership started though. Maybe it was the big five for a while and you include Newcastle. I do not see that changing in 3 years unless another billionaire shows up and buys some one.

I can see where he is comming from to a certain degree. It gives the chance for lesser clubs from other european countries to make some money, but it will devalue the comp as a whole. imo ofc

Don't think Platini's changes will do any good to Champions League, it is already a highly popular and aknowledged cup, why fix what ain't broken :x

Van Der Sar
Evera
Vidic
Ronaldo
Giggs
Larsson

Subs
Heinze
Saha
Kuszczak
Fletcher?

Thats 6 from your starting 11 and 4? on the bench vs us who you droping then ? Granted we do play some weeks with 11 in our team.

Lets not pretened that there are 120 great english players that can play the standard of the premiership. If this is true say good buy to entertaining football.

I just saw it on skysports news. It's 5 foreigners in any starting 11.

If the plan is for 3 or 4 years time, then managers have time to get it sorted.

I was only joking about Wenger :) like you say Utd would struggle too.

Home grown players are not classed as foreigners, Giggs and Fletcher would be exempt because they played for United as in kids in the Under 18's for more than one year as would people like Jonny Evans. All the rest are fair game, with that rule still we could field a first 11 with 6 homegrown players easily.

Ben Foster
Phil Bardsley
Kieran Richardson
Wes Brown
Jonny Evans
Gary Neville
Paul Scholes
Ryan Giggs
Wayne Rooney
John O'Shea
Alan Smith
Guiseppe Rossi
Rio Ferdinand
Micheal Carrick
Lee Martin
Gerard Pique
Chris Eagles and quite a few others.

If we get Bale there is another one as well. United are well prepared for this ruling and it is another reason why we are after Bale and Hargreaves.

How many could Arsenal field? ;) :p :D

We could do 11 from out whole club our under 13s have some english players ;)

Thats not how it worked in the past it is where the passport says they are boren so when they have played long enough in england they can get a english passport and play as a free player i think

Justin Hoyte, Theo Walcott, Matthew Connolly, Kerrea Gilbert and Mark Randall are all in the first squad we need one more :)

You have to admit this will shaft the premiership. And its bollocks this will make the English team better, lowering the standars to let people play just because they are english dose not make for a better england team :)

I am starting to think the guys a prick :p

Nah, the homegrown will remain according to the plans Platini floated before Christmas as will the British Isles player exemption that the FA would fight tooth and nail to keep.

As for your 5, I will happily put them up against...

Rooney
Giggs
Fletcher
Smith
Rossi
Scholes
Richardson
Ferdinand
Neville
Brown
Carrick
Foster

...any day of the week ;) United are in good shape regardless of what the new rules may bring and Fergie will always make sure we have a bedrock of British players in the squad, something that cannot be said by 75% of the other premiership clubs at the moment.

Ok i will pick the players you purchased and put them agaist our ones and compare prices just because they are english :) Not like for like just similar.

Rooney - Henry 18mil difference not worth that atm maybe in time.
Smith - Adebeyor if smith was 10 like i think he cost 5 mil more. Worth it nope
Ferdinand - Toure Kolo cost about 1 mil i think so 27 mil difference worth that hell no
Carrick - Cesc was a free transfer Carrick 18 mil worth it nope not now

Not meant as an attack on Man U but you have to admit right now you pay alot more because a player is english and i can only see that getting worse.

This will make the gap even bigger chelski will buy all the top english players with man u. Arsenal will try with Liverpoll to get some every one else will end up getting sub standard players.

Get your facts right soze. :p

Smith cost £7 million.

Micheal Carrick has been fantastic for the last 3 months, Alan Hansen and Mark Lawerenson have been giving the guy glowing praise.

Rio? Well he is a muppet enough said ;)

Oh and why have you changed the subject? Yes Wenger is a master of getting great young foreign lads, why can't he find many English ones though?

I said i think i was going from the top of my head.

And he can Walcot 17mil Cesc free. I wonder why he gose abroad.

The only way we won the double was by getting good players cheap if we had spent the money on engliash players we would not be competing at the level we are. Surely you can admit english players are over priced Alan Smith cost 3mil less that Thiery henry ffs

Alan Smith has suffered a terrible injury and has never been able to show his true form at United, you are judging him on 2 years at United of which he has been injured for 18 months and played out of postition when he has played. It is not fair to compare him to anyone at this point. At his peak for Leeds he was worth a damn sight more than £7 million, he was a major part of the squad that got Leeds to a Champions League semi-final.

You might not like what I am about to say but it is the truth. Arsenal have a shit scouting system in the U.K. because the vast majority of the scouting budget is being spent on running a central europe and africa scouting team. Wenger is targeting non-english players for one reason only, cost. He gets alot more value for money, his problem is that when the rules change Arsenal will be up shit creek without a paddle, they are going to need to find 5 top class British players and they are going to have to fight for them against other clubs in the same boat, the prices will be driven up even further.

I will not argue as i do not know the ins and out of arsenals english scouting But Wenger has said plenty of times that he dose not buy alot of english talent because he gets priced out of it. He has said he only paid 17mil for Walcot because he had to not because he is worth it.

I agree if this rule gose through we are in alot of trouble but so are you mate you can't just swap your team out for english players and expect to start in top gear.

My second cousin is a freelance scout for alot a number of football league teams, he explained to me the reasons why Arsenal have so few English youngsters and as I said before it is primarily cost. That is cost for the players and lower costs to hire top quality scouts. Wenger already knew dozens of top quality scouts on the continent who work alot cheaper than English scouts and know the region much better, that is the secret to his success.

The Wallcott price was ridiuclous but he faniced the lad to do great things and so he blew his budget on him, fair play to be honest, it takes alot of nerve.

This rule will be bad fullstop but I am not worried for United because we have a great youth scouting system in place and we can afford to spend big when we need to. For the smaller clubs it will be a nightmare and for the likes of Chelsea/Liverpool/Arsenal it will be a major transition period. All those United youngsters are brought up playing the United system, it is why we can slot players in and out when needed and get reasonable performances from young reserves. If the rules do change we will just have to play them more, it might not be a bad thing for the national side in the long run but the quality of the Premier League will initially suffer.
