PlanetSide 7 day Trial.

The 7 day free trial has been opened up again for anyone who wants to
sample the game, or if you're an ex player and want to see the changes that
have been made. You will need to make a new SOE station name - you cant
use this offer with old characters if you've played PlanetSide before.

Whats PlanetSide? Watch this video http://www.marcopolo.me.uk/PSMovies/PS_AD_LARGE.wmv
Get hold of a free 7 day trial CD key from http://cmt.ubisoft.fr/planetside_pcgamer/
And a complete download (1.6gb!!) using this installer http://www.greyfalcon.net/psinstall.exe

PlanetSide seems to have turned a corner over the past few months - it's
become a whole lot of fun again!

I'm sure some or maybe most of you already know of Planetside, the MMOFPS
from SOE. For those that don't, Planetside is currently a one of a kind game.

It offers a full range of combat, anything from regular grunt infantry combat
with or without vehicle support, airborne troop drops, dogfights, tank
columns and battles, assault buggies and support vehicles, covert infiltration,
seamless indoor and outdoor combat in and around bases and towers and
vast continents, artillery, combat engineering and medics and much more.

In my own humble opinion, there is no better gaming
experience than having 10 of my mates on a Galaxy drop ship (a planetside
equivalent of the present day C130 "Hercules" ) and dropping on a tower
clearing level after level. Heavy fire pouring both ways through the stairwells
and medics working frantically to keep your team going. Heavily armored
MAXes appear just to be cut down by "Decimator" anti-vehicle rockets.
It goes on and on, and it's wicked!

Then again, maybe massive tank battles and bomber airstrikes is more your
cup of tea? It's all in Planetside. Give it a go ;)

Turamber: Hard to say without knowing when you quit ;)
Personally I think the empires are fairly balanced now. Not perfectly but will it ever be? Battle islands are in, BFRs (BattleFrameRobotics) as well.
PS was on a bit of a downhill, specially after the introduction of the ridiculously overpowered BFRs. Luckily the devs have listened pretty well to
the players on this one and the BFRs are now modified to alot more sensible
levels. A dedicated team of 2-3 grunts can take one out no problem.

Nirawen: I agree with you on that one, however the BFRs have gone through
alot of changes now. The 1 man variants are no longer standard for one. You now get the 2 man gunner variant as a starter. That along with major nerfs to all variants, increased cert costs (you now have to cert anti infantry and AA weapons seperately) means that a team of 2 grunts with jammers, gauss/minichaingun and Decimators can take down a BFR.
The process is still not completed either so don't let BFRs stop you from
enjoying PS again. They've been beaten down into shape now :)

Barrys Squad: Shame on you gits, having me come here and do your work for you :twak:
You ARE coming to Operation Awah on the 12th though aren't you?

I took part in the "event" that launched battle islands, quit at the end of that month. What in god's name are these BFR thingies then? Tell all!! *fingers itch at the renew button*

I went to PS again, then found out you couldn't even try the BFR's unless you had corecombat so quickly uninstalled :p

Doh, Cyfr =P
You could try em out in VR without having CC if you wanted! Anyway, Core
Combat is €10 now so it's not like it's a big deal if you really want it ;).

BFRs are essentially big mechs. The standard one is a 2-seater variant with one pilot seat and one gunner seat. Then there a single seater version and one flight variant that also only takes 1 pilot. Feelings are quite mixed about
the BFRs. Initially I wasn't much of a fan at all but the devs have listened
very well to the community and made numerous adjustments to every
aspect of the BFRs. I have to say even I, who was quite opposed to them to start off with, now feel that they've been quite well integrated.

As for what they actually ARE, well they're Mechs. You operate them mostly like any other vehicles. You can chose loadouts, varying between the standard Anti vehcile weaponry, Anti infantry and Anti Air.
On a standard gunner variant you have two guns fitted on the "arms" of the mech and one on top of it, operated by the gunner. Basically you could mount 1AA gun + 1Anti Infantry gun on the arms and then have the gunner use rocket pods or a Gauss Cannon (empire specific New Conglomerate weapons) to handle vehicles.
Good fun, though I prefer being on the Anti-BFR infantry teams. Alot of BFR drivers get overconfident with their new toys. 3-4 motivated soldiers with anti vehicle weapons and jammer grenades can take a BFR down if they get the jump on it by bailing from aircrafts or sneaking up on it >:)

Try it on! There's a 7 day trial if you don't want to pay to reactivate your sub just yet =D

Well, I resubbed. Unfortunately to get access to these new fangled machines you have to complete ten missions in the craptacular expansion zones. I do have the expansion but hate the place.

Still I might get round to it this month, didn't see any of the robots in use this evening but then I only spent an hour on Extinction with a handful of other people.

I wonder if my chars are still around. I played PS during beta and during the early days, quit when zerging was the only option and CC turned out to be a huge dissapointment. Whats the max BR, 20? I think if they still are around that I have 2-3 chars that are max. :)

Had the potential to be a insanely good game but now I dont think I will ever come back to it, I am all for WoW now. :D

Might try it out now though if its for free and I can remember my login info. :p

EDIT: Nerf me needing to improve my reading skills, ;)

Yeah PlanetSide has improved a lot in the last couple of weeks. Werner came close to losing it's #1 outfit as we were all getting pretty pissed off with the way things are going. Thankfully we're back and kicking ass... :)

I will leave you to argue about who the outfit might be, but I will give you a clue: we are smurfs and proud :)

It's worth coming back for the odd month imo. :)

They did a big character wipe about a year ago, however you should be able to get them back if you /appeal a CSR.

I removed some of your smilies cos I hit the image limit :)

As far as I am aware the best outfits havn't thought about quitting so god knows who you are :p .

Planetside has improved again compared with the start of BFR's, people just had to have patience and give it time :)

Nearly, very nearly, BR20 now on my character. This would be the same character I rolled when the game went live ;) Despite the changes to the gameplay over that time, the CTF mod, the linking bases, base shields, battle islands and all the rest it still feels like the same game. 10,000 v 5 zerging every base on a continent, or being the 5 defending against the 10,000 enemies.

Good for a bit, but not a keeper in my book. Which probably explains why I'm still BR19 :)

Hmmm, dinged BR20 and then - when logging out - I note they've changed the level cap to BR23! Grrrr.....!

Too many BFRs. Everyone and their mother has Orbital Strike now too. Not as much fun as it used to be.

Free 30 day trial of Planetside with CC and the BFRs on the cover of PC Format this month (DVD version).

Lot of buzz about it recently on various forums. Just trying to reinstall now. My fecking second CD won't work and I can't remember my station name or password. Want to play something with a little faster pace between WoW sessions.

I was Daxon way back when in the early Days with Barrys Squad. Any of you guys still play?

I've just given up trying to install it. Will pick up PC Format this week though and pop on for a bit. See ya on Werner.
