Aye, not a great deal of room to do some decent cable management. I might give it a better go at some point.

Most have failed to notice that the system is in fact, shit.
Basic board, basic graphics card, it's no high performer.
That soundproofing also does nothing for heat other than warm up itself.

Put a decent graphics card in there, more than 1 hdd (that enclosure is the HDD) and some real beef under the bonnet and it'll look damned slight messier ;)

nope, the rest went in the bin. Most of them were too bent, mine was a concoction of all of them, stealing the remaining front panels etc :)

am jealous (of both:p) but if PSU went on 2nd 1, you'd cry ;)

P.S. Kryten that case is crap, has lots of sharp edges that could kill kittens and puppies. Send it me and i'll *cough* dispose of it in a proper and safe manner ;)

Ehehe.

Yeah, I am sort of jealous with that amount of cable tidiness, who wouldn't be :D
I've spent ages and half a months wages on cable ties trying to get to that standard, but never works :)

Saying that, it's rather difficult with 5 HDDs, a pair of opticals, FDD, card reader/bluetooth device, twice as many internal cards (With a much longer graphics card) and a power supply with cables too short to do anything with :|

Anything IDE = cable tidiness out of the window. Those rounded cables really don't help much at all - so chunky and tough to keep out of the way.

Did a complete rebuild today for a new PSU (Silverstone Modular 750w)and to re-attempt some cable tidiness. Doesn't help much :(

aye :/ that one's the FDD cable, no IDE stuff here any more. Same applies though, pain in the arse especially when twisting. The flat cables were far better than them, but couldn't find one that didn't look like it's spent 24 year's in a smokers PC.

I put the rest of my hard disks back in mine but have to say buying a sata dvd drive is a life saver no IDE leads :)

Had a huge failure last night.
Restart during a DVD (Batman Begins), turned back on, continuous loop restarts. Eventually safe mode showed me a blue screen.

"INTERNAL_POWER_FAILURE"

Interesting.

So, back on the Akasa 460w and the Silverstone is going into the scrap bin at work :/

lol @ that duct tape : positive sides, no sharp edges to slice hands open/fingers off with ;)

Anyway, thought I'd post updates and step by step pics on the 4th rebuild of my system. Managed to do a half proper job of the cabling this time.

Starting off, already stripped everything back out. Moved some drives around and the front panel with usb ports/speaker output to make cables easier to manage.

Newbuild.jpg

Starting routing some of the SATA cabling round the back. Ditched my HDD caddy also as it doesn't really get used, and the less interference to the drives the better.

Newbuild-2.jpg

Bit of work on the inside itself, hooked up the 4 HDD's with those 1m long SATA cables.

Newbuild-3.jpg

Time to start routing some power: mainboard and the auxillary fans. Long blue cable round the edge is going from my card reader. Don't have enough USB headers on the motherboard to fit it, but plenty round the back so made up an external to internal converter for this purpose

Newbuild-5.jpg

Just about done, Close up of the HDD's and cable routing down below.

Newbuild-6.jpg

And final internal shot. It's a HUGE improvement to what it was.

And outside:

Noticed any improvement in your CPU/System temp, Kryt?

Nath: Idle temp is 1ºC lower on the cores but load is significantly better, 5ºC drop. Typical load temp is now 31 degrees as opposed to 36.
I suspect most of the improvement is the intake fan is attached to the front of the HDD cage to cool the drives directly, and previously had a lot of clutter behind the drives blocking that airflow. So I don't think it's much of a case of just being tidier, rather the difference in moving that power supply to the top from the bottom of the case.

My old set-up before I got sick of the fact it was a gloss windowed side panel on a beautifully brushed black praetorian.
