heh i didnt expect to see anything like that in the UK, but its very common in housing estates in Dublin (and i imagine rest of Ireland!), freaking horses all over the place, a friend of mine was once whipped by a pikey on horseback while walking through the city centre, left her a nasty mark on her arm o_O

Yep I haven't seen anything like that since Ballymun in Dublin over 20 years ago, very suprising to see an entire estate like that in Yorkshire.

'tis somehow funny to see the same issues with gypsies all over Europe.

Around here, its a common practice for majors to concede gypsies new cheap goverment houses placed in certain spots, in exchange for them leaving their camps situated in residencial, industrial or new developed areas.
Well, you gotta see those new houses just after 1 month of being taken into the possesion of the gypsie families:
- all metalic parts, furniture, elements of the boulding (including elevators, doors, stairs, ....) removed
- all the building heater petrol/gas tanks empty
- as a consequence, camp fires being used in middle of the homes
- animals roaming free, including sheeps, goats, rosters, hens, rabbits and other livestock
- parking being used as storehouses for literally any kind of product in the market, both legal and illegal (drugs, stolen goods, etc...)
- mention apart: garbage all around, collapsed sewers, destroyed gardens, no streetlamps with a single light bulb, streetphones removed, and a large etc...

They are in the process of knocking down Ballymun now (well they have been for a while, i dont know if they have any money for it now)

the plan was to knock down the old horrible towers (that look like something from 50's beyond Iron Curtain :p ) and replace it with a massive new complex of houses and shopping centres and parks... but errr so far they havent achieved much as far as i know!

isnt there laws against keeping animals in "residential" properties/areas in the UK? (im sure there are in Ireland but they seem to be ignored/not enforced :p )

Bout time aswell.

Can't remember the amount of times I was hasseled by knackers as a kid let alone the couple of times I was mugged by them. I'm sorry if it sounds bad but I had sych trouble with them as a kid that I really do hate them all now.

Lot of Ballymun has been rebuilt now (it has an IKEA ffs). Still see lots of knackers and ponies around various places on the Northside (there's a big knacker camp at Clare Hall and there are often "incidents" with roaming ponies getting wiped out by trucks coming off the M50).

Apparently Limerick is a lot worse for this kind of thing than Dublin these days.
