calulate the work done to life a 1200N weight through a vertcial hieght of 200m

that would be:

1200 x 200

right?

Work done = force x distance x cos pheta of the angle you're working at.

If it's just moving vertically upwards, cos pheta would be 0 so it'd just be

1200 x 200 = 240,000J

thanks thought so, well its about a starlift and you can see in the diagram that its moving at a angle, HOWEVER

a) we have not covered cos pheta

b) its a pretty little picture diagram of a bumpy mountin side and the question states the ski lift is moving VERTICALLY

so i will just go with what written rather than the picture that is just illistrutive

i think youll find 1200 x 200 x 0 = 0

I explained it badly but I meant if cos pheta is 0 then it's 1 thus

1200 x 200 x 1

after all - 0 is a ludicrous answer physically :p

I have absolutely no idea what 'pheta' is, perhaps you mean Theta? :p
