not many people CHOOSE to be unemployed

Actually - that's not true - loads of people choose to be unemployed. I myself spent 10 great months skiving off at the taxpayers expense, in the pub all day, every day (I was good at that old crystal maze machine which "supplemented" my dole).

It was a fucking riot! :)

Having said that - I now do work my ass off for a living - I suffer more stress and have loads less free time and have less fun - but I do own a fucking big telly, a house, a car (well until last monday (f*cking robbing bastards)) etc......

And chap - if you spend so long applying for jobs did you not think of relocating to somewhere other than Wales - where it's pretty fucking difficult to find work at the best of times.......??

I like the idea of forcing long-term doleites to work, perhaps only 10 hours a week (cleaning things, helping out at local hospitals/local firms?? (at least they'd get experience)).

Hang on. They're not going to work for the council ?!?

Most councils are run by crackpot glory-hunters and Trotskies who are obsessed with their own pet projects. They'll have them working on the Moa Tse Tung memorial bike-lane replacing all the A roads :eek6:

Can't really argue with that!

No one's brought up the point that this could have the effect of increasing the crime rate.

If people can't get free hand outs for sitting on their arses (I'm talking about the truley lazy fucks who have no intention of ever getting a proper job) then they would find some way to make money that's easier than manualy labour.

Burglaries would increase. Theft in general would increase. Police costs would incerease. Insurance would go up in certain neighbourhoods.

Forcing people to work wouldn't have half as much of the effect you'd think it might.

Yes, but it would become a crime to not be registered for dole if you don't have a job, punishable by jail where you would be forced to service the community by breaking rocks. Simple. Welcome to Wij's Police State :D

Another point is that a lot of people get depressed without work. Sitting on the dole, no job, will eventually get them depressed and they will end up doing nothing to try and get a job. It's not a laziness thing, it's a depression thing. Sure, the manual labour would be shit work but it would be an active thing. It would suck them out of the depression and get them more motivated.

On the other hand people who will sign up for the dole and would usually commit crimes being a pain on the street they will instead be working... No crime commited less crime

er

if i had money, i could move away from wales... and get a better job.... but... no... wait? i don't have a job = no money = no move = no job.... seeing an emerging pattern here?

perp, i dunno about your hood, but down here right, every single day, u see loads of what i assume must be community service peeps, out cutting grass, picking up litter, dredging the lakes, all sorts... i know for a fact that there are some working on wildlife conservation at the wildfowl sanctuary and stuff too....

so what exactly are all these ppl from the dole going to do?

If they refuse to do the community service, they don't get their dole. This would make them realise that they HAVE to work, like it or not - and that no matter how much they moan about the minimum rate of pay, it's still better than working 40 hours a week for dole.
Nice theory, but what about people who get made redundant, should somebody who's been working for 45 years be forced to sweep peoples crap off the streets just cos his boss removed his job.

Also if there out 40hrs a week, when the smeg are they gonna go get a job.....

How on earth can you apply for hudreds of jobs and not get any of them? Oh wait, it's because you're a student who's underqualified and unexperienced. Yes. That's the one.

Simply there is no real exucse for long term unemployment. Anyone can get a job these days, just look at the people that push trolleys around car parks all day!

As for the other long term unemployed, deport them. They are stealing money which isn't theirs.
