Perfect Reaver Template??? Maybe if you hate TOA...

After spending hours playing with my Reaver's TOA template trying to get fully-capped this and over-capped that and resist pierce and extra damage and everything else you seem to need nowadays, I decided to try something different.

The template below has ZERO TOA utility. It has no +damage, no +speed and no overcaps. It was originally designed for what I'm going to call "Utility" Reavers. It will give solid offence, great defence, good damage and will work well for any spec. It will also help (I think) to maximise Reaver-Bomb damage and lower resists. It should give lots of survivability in a variety of situations and allow the player to get on with interrupting and bombing/ML-dumping.

Do people think this kind of template is even viable any more? What would you think of trading off your TOA bonuses for capped basics?

Obviously I've run into some overcapping issues with the below template. STR/CON/DEX/QUI/PIE are all at +75. Hits are at +200. Resists all at +26(+racial) and all skills (Flex/Shield/Soulrending/Parry) are at +11.

Well you got some melee speed in that template tbh, you just didnt put it into the items.

That makes it even better then!! I'm not trying to avoid TOA stuff by the way, I just looked for the highest-utility stuff I could find.

To be honest, I can't see anyone ever making a template like this. I do believe there is too much to be gained from capping TOA bonuses and suchlike. I just wanted to offer an alternative viewpoint to the widespread "NEED 101STR/CON/DEX m8s!!!!111" you hear so much nowadays. I reckon a template like the one above is going to be much more balanced. The only thing I would like in there is about another 200 HPs!

edit: he's right too! get 2% from BoSO and 2% from the Belt of Dread!!!

Maybe, but if you get 101str and 101dex then you're likely to lose piety and resists. Get 10% melee damage and 5% resist pierce and you'll lose +shield, +parry and +soulrending.

Since the Reaver is a massively versatile class, is it worth gimping their defence for 10% better offence? I think I'd have to do some tests to convince myself one way or the other, but I don't think it's as straightforward as Stunned makes out.

I'm pretty sure when I finalise my template, I'll be going for SCW and GoV and all that other FotM shiny TOA stuff...I'm just wondering how much extra I'll get for it and exactly what I'll lose.

I'm not 100% sure to be honest. I've never been quite sure of the relationship between casting stat (ie dex), skill spec (ie 36 soul), +skill (ie +11 soul from items/RR) and spell level when it comes to caster damage, variance and resists.

As I understand it, the only thing that affects resists is the level of the spell. Maximum damage is calculated from casting stat and spell delve and variance comes from composite spec (ie 36+11).

I'm also not sure exactly what affects SQ damage...heard conflicting reports but I'd guess it's either based purely on Piety or somehow split between Piety and SR. I also have no idea how damage from procs is calculated...

Where's Pin when you need him? :(

Think 1 pie point = 3 dmg for the lifetap, not sure about the SQ

so with a 100 piety in tempalte, plus the ~150-200 it does normally, you can lifetap for 500 ?

I think not ^^

well, was around that, could possible have been for the SQ and not the lifetap, but my lifetap doesnt hit for 150 dmg normally :( but then i have 0 piety.

I got 84 Piety and I think 49 effective SR, there isnt really any need for +sr tobe honest.. I also think that you should invest in piety not becuase of damage but more-so the fact you can twist longer, regardless in most fights i find I have used a whole mana bar or two, maximising your ability to interupt is a must imo.

Style procs, like Levi is purely based on your WS and the resists of the person your trying to land the proc on, which is also pre-determined by your str/dex and +flex which governs your WS afaik, but nowadays if your lucky enough to get AT, then going for o/c in str/dex isnt really nessasary, sure.. more dex for better WS thus better blocking, but you could easily get away with 101 dex, 75 str and AT, and still block just aswell and do good damage still, I think AT is critical in a reaver template nowadays, your really missing out on basically 5% levi proc & bomb damage, which does add up after a number of successful procs & bombs, think my dot does about 40 a tick and dd about 130 or so, not much but atleast its something.. for a lvl 30 ish spell atleast .

I really wouldnt bother with +con, or any defencive stat on your part as a reaver, the gain in +con is pathetic, the only gain in hp you'll get is with toughness, and you wont have that unless you are a pve reaver with mob, or a high RR reaver who already has the basics like twf3 and purge2.

SQ dmg is greatly increased with +pie and +sr, i do about 400 - 500 a target, but dont gimp yourself running around with +11 sr 24/7 cos your not going to be lt/dot/bombing 24/7.
