PCI-E, AMD Socket A and the way of the future?

Currently working on a new system, but with only £500 tops to spend im tempted to go for a Radeon 9800 pro now the price is reasonable coupled with a socket A AMD mobo for a 3200 xp+ at 400 bus.

Is it worth waiting for the new AMD components to drop in price and will Socket A and 8xAGP be a thing of the past when it comes time to upgrade again?

Well 8xAGP better not become obsolete. I'm planning on getting a top end graphics card soon.
