PC Zone (one of the leading UK mags) has a review in its new edition. Its on page 110.

They've scored it 88% - which is pretty high. They like the gfx improvements and easier levelling, though they say the downside is the higher pc spec requirements. They also say a negative is that "some new classes are more powerful than others". Overall it seems a fair review. Of course being a UK mag it's ironic that any new players who want to rush out and buy it wont be able to... ;)

you got to remember most pc magazines if its not halflife 2 give it a low rating :)

88% is fine and its probbly obvious they havnt played the game.

Otherwise they might have scored it lower? ;)

Most of the DAoC reviews are done on the US servers... if they experienced the fuck-ups of GOA*, those scores would be lower.

*Disclaimer: GOA has never been involved in a fuck-up, the fault always lies with an external entity outside of their control.

PC Zone is probably the most respected mag in the UK for its reviews. They rate it according to how it plays, rather than based on hype or raves/whines on boards. For example their HL2 coverage has been very balanced and not hype driven :)

It *is* hard to level a healer in DaoC always was. Not like you can solo after all if there's no-one about...

Hhhmm not sure about this.

Having played a healer class you get opportunities to group which other classes may not and sometimes these are groups a fair bit above you in level terms.

But with less and less peeps playing DAoC and those who are now powerlevelling a lot, there are also less and less xp groups running. As a pure healer the chances to solo effectively are limited.

I really hope that reviews like this together with marketing efforts from GOA bring in some new peeps to the game. We really need them, not just from a new blood perspective but to kick start a few of the older players.

No magazine is unbiased. PC Zone was sucked in by the hype for Black & White as every other medium. Besides, magazines need 'exclusives' and they don't get them for free. Alot of readers are stupid anyway, they don't want to read a magazine if every game is given a low score. They need to see 'Game of the month - Gold Award' in every issue. Otherwise it's a crap mag, reviewing crap games, yes? :p

If you listen to local radio and they start playing the same single/group every hour.. you know within two weeks there will be an 'exclusive' interview with that group. It's all down to marketing deals and magazines suffer from the same.
