What do you have now? What AMD64 3500+ is that?
What case are you going to be using? What PSU is in that case?

Pentium4 2.0GHz
Epox 4BDA2
1GB PC2100 RAM
GeForce 4 Ti4200
1x 80GB Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM
1x 40GB Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM
Chieftec case w/ 360W PSU
Lite-On LTR 40x12x48 CD-RW
LG DVD-ROM
iiyama 17" VisionMaster Pro 413

I'm keeping most of that, just the mobo/cpu/ram and graphics card need upgrading tbh.

3500+ is my weapon of choice too, seems to be the best performance-per-buck CPU at the moment.

Going up to a 3800+ (~£420) from the 3500+ (~£180) seems to be a fook load of cash for probably not a lot of gains on the FPS front (ok, you can run HL2 at 100 fps instead of 110 fps - you get what i mean ;)).

I have just bought installed one of those mainboards. It has some nice features in the bios + no fan on the Northbridge. Works fine for me. :)

Have you got any more money to spend? I wouldn't get that graphics card. I'd save a bit more until I could afford a BFG 6800GT, as it's probably the cheapest top end card out there, and overclocks to over 6800 Ultra speeds.

I agree with Clown, seems pointless to throw in a good mobo/cpu and then let it down with a midrange card.

My own personal opinion, but save some money in your budget for quiet fans and heatsinks. They're brilliant.

Oh, and is the MB PCI-e? Not much use right now, but it might give you another year or two before you upgrade again.

Okay, looked at graphics cards and I'm looking at getting this:

Leadtek WinFast A400TDH GeForce 6800 GT 256MB DDR3 TV-Out/DVI (AGP) - Retail (GX-032-LT) £234.95

Any thoughts?

If you are gonna spend that for that graphics card, you should look at the link which Clown posted, the BFG 6800GT, i have it and am mightily impressed by it. Looks to be a similar price than the Leadtek one youre looking at so it wont be a big difference

Click 'buy now' or 'add to basket', then tell me what you think about the one I mentioned previously.

Wait until it is in stock, its well worth it . The x800 se is a fairly crap card in comparison to the bfg, SE or shitty edition as its known to many isn't a good card.

The rest of your system will be great, but it will be let down (throttled slightly) by the x800se, i'd deffinately recommend you go for a 6800gt even if you cant get the bfg one.

Ive heard nothing but praise for the 6800gts good performance per £ in comparison to the x800xt pe or 6800 ultra (which you should only buy if money isnt an issue) and much better than the x800 pro (only 12 pipes) or x800se (under clocked x800 pro).

Not necessarily so.

I'm after the Leadtek, I've not got the money yet so waiting isn't a problem.

Cheers for that link RB, I just read this over on Tom's Hardware, I think I am convinced about going for the GeForce 6800GT...
