So being house bound I was looking at other alternatives to make some money, full time streaming came up as one of those ways but i'd need a 2nd pc to hold the stream load while I played games on the main pc.

Anyone got any experience with streaming that would know what a 2nd pc would need purely to stream with?

Was told a quad core cpu, and decent capture card is the only essential parts, gfx card isn't important at all.

Cheers.

You don't need a second pc to stream.

A refresh i5 ( haswell ) or any i7 will let you play+stream just fine.

Nvidia and AMD both have streaming thingies ( NVE for nvidia, VCE for amd ), that let you stream w/ minimum load on the gpu.

https://obsproject.com/ is free, and the best streaming software available.

I've tried streaming with this PC

I5 4690k
GTX 780
8gig DDR 1866 ram

and I get fps loss in some games

you're doin it wrong then.

Post your video encoding settings pages.

I mean yes - you will see some small fps drop, but it shouldn't be much and a 780 is overkill for anything in 1080p.

Audio bitrate is lower to get more out of my bandwidth as the difference in audio quality isn't that noticable.

You see that toggle for NVENC? That's nvidias encoder, enable that. spazz :p

Also up the bitrate to like 3000, another issue might be if you picked a slower preset, keep it on the default ( superfast iirc ).

If you don't want Frame Rate drops then why not just get an external unit like the Elgato. At around 70-100 GBP they are not expensive, easy to configure and work very well. When I researched this for my son (xbox 360) it was the best option and most used by Youtubers. They also work on PC just as well.

Advertising and stuff.

Never understood why people want to watch other people playing a game myself, why not just play it yourself?!

Right, so it's people watching you play your games then? Are you very good at what you play @BloodOmen? I understand it a little bit @Raven because my lad has been banned from watching people playing Minecraft videos on Youtube, he would spend hours and hours just sat there watching videos of people playing it.....he has the game. Anyway I lost my rag about a year ago and he has been banned since, well, his mum caught him on his tablet upstairs the other night watching it, I was gutted, sneakily watching nerds and not porn ffs  anyway he got the mother of all bollockings then.

The going rate is $2 per 1000 people that watch an ad, so if you have 10000 viewers, and you do 1 ad/hr, thats $20/hr. Obviously factor in adblock and it's probably more like $10/hr.

Now say you have 20000 viewers, and you display 3 ads/hr, that's $120/hr.
Plus most streamers accept donations - which can be well over $100/hr.

That's probably in the tens of people or low hundred ish though.

I'd compare it to say Top Gear - you have a car - why are you watching a show about cars?
It's entertainment.

I'm alright at games, its not just about being good though, you have to be entertaining/talk to your viewers. The hardest part is getting the initial viewer base and keeping it, going to try and build some up with the Evolve Alpha i'm in tomorrow, assuming I can get it working without lag.

And yea the ad thing is probably accurate, you can also have a donation button too which some people donate a ridiculous amount if your a good streamer, seen donations being made of up to $800 to a good streamer, its crazy the amount of money some people have.

The main problem is basically - if you're not either a top 0.1% player of a game, or don't have massive tits you want to display on camera, getting to the viewercount where it's a viable option is very very difficult.

The tits part isn't true anymore thankfully, Twitch updated their terms of service a few days ago, anything thats sexually suggestive or if your half naked/in a small top its instant ban. Prob take them awhile to route all the tit mongers out.

That said, i've seen people who aren't super good at games be successful, you really have to dedicate yourself to streaming though, you can't just stream 1 hour a day 2 days a week, it literally has to be like a full time job hours wise. It doesn't happen over night and takes time to build up a regular fanbase... or so i think anyway.

She might not be in a bikini or acting in a sexual way, but you can't tell me she isn't using her norks to attract an audience :p

Yeah but my point remains, you can ignore those rules pretty much and still find a way to use boobs to promote your stream.
