righty, everytime i turn off my pc it loses its ip,dns and gateway settings. to get these back i have to turn my router and modem off, turn on the modem and wait for activity, turn on router, wait a bit then they are back.

is that an os issue, nic or router? i am using winxp without sp2.

have you tried going start>run>cmd and in there typing "ipconfig /renew" ? should renew any ip address from the router if possible..
but not encountered that before no. sorry. :(

This is everytime you turn it off, ie you turn it off striaght after booting up and it looses its settings? Can you try another machine on the router? Take it round a pals house and just try it?

Ive never heard of a problem like this. First guess its the router not sure why it locks upon booting though which makes me think its a NIC issue. Cant you give yourself a static ip and after a reboot see if you can ping the routers IP? Routers firmware upto date? What model router?
