Can't get enough of FH

Similar to another thread here - its almost like my PC pauses every XX mins (not sure if it occurs exactly say 5mins apart or so but does happen quite often) and then it gets going again as if nothing happened - almost like someone hits pause for a second, then everything catches up again..
Not 100% on my specs but its a amd 64bit 3200 dual core? processor, no idea of mobo, gfx is ..i think a nvidia 6600GT (if thats the around £100 one that can run in SLI - the mobo can support SLI - its an asus, cant remember more than that) 2 sticks of corsair memory 512mb in - cl2 latency in a silver heatsink - again no idea of exact name (i didnt build my pc - gave money to a techie mate and just said "make it so") running Win XP - non 64bit version at present.
All the latest drivers were installed etc and my mate set the pc up. He is a bit stumped as to what it could be atm - so thought would ask here.
If more specific specs are needed I can dig em out when I get home later unless anyone has had a similar prob and any clues/suggestions would be appreciated.
