Well my gfx card has been on the blink for a while, and it turns out that upgrading is only slightly more expensive than trying to find another agp card for my ageing setup.

So I've ordered this, I know its perhaps a bit late, but could anybody tell me if they see any problems with this:

Asus A8V-VM SE Socket 939 VIA KM890 VGA AUDIO mATX
AMD Athlon 64 3000+ Socket 939 512Kb Cache OEM Processor
Speeze COPPERREEF K8 Socket 754 / 940 / 939 Cooling kit
Inno3D GeForce 7600GT 256MB TV Out DVI Core 560MHz Memory 700MHz PCI-E

It'll certainly all work - however going Socket939 you're limiting yourself already quite a lot - development of new hardware for that platform has already long ceased in favour of AM2.

It might be worth looking around similar basic specced Intel counterparts at the moment - you might be looking at a total of 20 quid more perhaps but you'll be a lot more futureproof should you need a new processor.

If you do decide to stick with the 939 hardware as listed, you still wont be limited *too* much for CPU's - i believe you can still get the X2 4400s (maybe a little higher) for the 939 platform but i've a feeling these will turn into the old AMD Barton's - i.e. more expensive second hand a year or so down the line than they were brand new.

My main concern is making it work now. I'm a poor student and can't afford to be buying new ram too. So main aim was to get stuff that would work with what I have already.
In 3-4 years time, when I'll probably next want to upgrade, I'll probably have far more money and so beable to get stuff with the best upgrade options etc.

I had an A8V it was fine, I would have bought a 4000+ though instead of the 3000, its well cheap and a superb cpu, I use one now, and Im not a poor student :)
