Hi.

I currently have 5.1 creative £90 5 year old things, cant find their name or an equivalent on their site anymore.

Im not in a position to set up 5.1 and I just want something where music sounds just as good / better than using headphones. These 5.1 sound quite flat and I can hear white noise when I just have them switched on and not playing anything which is really annoying!

I looked at the Creative site and their 2.1 dont seem to support THX? The only good Logitech seems to be Z2300 but they dont look that nice.

What other brands should I be considering? I'm looking at paying up to £150

I have a Creative sound blaster audigy 2 sound card if that matters.

Thanks!

old myth that normal speakers are no good for gaming is bull shit.
id say go down to richer sounds and demo wot ever you fancy you can get a 5.1 package with amp included for that much
, creative soundblaster is cack thanks to the soddy drivers cl release. if you have a recentish mobo then the realtek onboard sound should be good enuff

and nothing supports thx its a certification for gear that meants its standards, nothing more than badge asking you to chuck your money away, its pointless for gaming use

If you want decent sound from your pc then do as yaka said and buy a av/ receiver. If you have no space for 5.1 sound that is fine, just buy stereo speakers for now. Will sound better than PC speakers and be more versatile.

Replace the sound card with a xonar, the driver support is pretty decent and the audio fidelity is much better.

I didn't want a whole stack of speakers so I went for a set of Creative Labs GigaWorks T20 which are fairly expensive but they are very good, there is a higher model now too called GigaWorks T40.

I never considered home theatre speakers for the PC. I'll see what they have to offer :D

I'll look at some headphones for my mp3 player while im at it!

for mp3 use id suggest a cmoy pocket amp, you can either build it your self or get a pre built on off ebay for £19. id sugest grado sr60/80 but they arnt closed so not usefull in public sens 595 are the ones most would suggest

I got my T20s for a nice price and they were easy on the hands and eye so basically they suited my needs.
