I wish there was some part of the media in this country I could believe/trust but I am quite sure there isn't.

I have a massive problem with the BBC at the moment and I refuse to watch anything on that apart from MOTD and Top Gear when it starts. Jeremy Clarkson is the last honest person on telly imo :D

What's your problem with the BBC? The Today programme is probably the best news programme in the world. I tend to use the beeb, and then try to distill the truth by reading the Grauniad and the Telegraph/Times to get the left/right bias and try and come out somewhere in the middle.

Despite everything, I think we still have a pretty good news media in this country, if you're prepared to read everything with an appropriate amount of scepticism.

Its these Whistle Blower programs and stuff like Watchdog. You only ever get one very biased side of the story.

I guarantee there will be a hard done to 82 year old woman on Watchdog at least twice every show, and really if you read between the lines it all comes down to said old woman being really stupid.

Oh yeah, Watchdog is awful; always has been, but I don't regard watchdog as news or current affairs. Having said that, the Whistleblower programme they did on estate agents last week was very good (apart from the journo's dire presentation style). It didn't tell me anything I hadn't already guessed (two of the estate agents were very local to me and I've had dealings with them), but it was good to see their blatant dodginess exposed. It also showed they weren't actually very bright, (animal cunning aside), which also confirmed my suspicions :)

Samm was watching that, I caught a few bits of it.

Estate agents have always been corrupt pieces of shit, we didn't need that explaining to us.

For the next Whistle Blower they are looking into Adolf Hitlers history and dealing with the accusations that he may of been a racist.

The problem with this country is that only the chavs are breeding faster than they are dying :/

I dont have much faith left in Al-Beeb myself either :)
You are all missing the point though, which was the concreteing of the whole of the bloody south east to accomodate people, being the point of the article. Its different in different places. When I go back to the midlands where I was born most things are exactly the same as they have always been.
Down here they can put a housing estate through a field before you can bat an eyelid!
Having said that, Ive just come back from a shooting trip in a field, Im soaking wet, my cars covered in mud inside and outside, my shotty is soaking wt and covered in mud too, hmmm... maybe theres something in this concrete after all :D

Clarksons a twat, they asked him for his views on the budget last week and he spent 20 minutes crying over taxation on 4 x 4's. I hardly read the newspapers because they always seem to be full of shit at the moment. I watch the news to keep up with the day to day news. But even then I find it disturbing at the amount of shit covered.

You may think Clarkson is a twat, but there are those who would not allow you to say such a thing - and Clarkson isn't one of them.

I find Question Time a good source of information, mostly information on who the biggest cock is on the panel.

thats just the point though, like I said , wait till Turkey has a right to send a couple of hundred thousand people here too.
This country isnt made for it, and if you think it is, more than likely its because its not in you back yard.
Yet.

Only the stupid end of the press would link new homes in the SE and Immigrants - as was stated earlier in this thread the real driving force is all the families breaking up and everyone wanting to live alone - plus people keep buying multiple properties to rent out removing the first time buyer houses from the market - plus a lot of people want to live in the same region - i.e. - the south east.

It works both ways in the EU too - theres nothing to stop us all invading Sweden :)

Problem is the people who did it before can now either choose work or just sit around and get money from the state.

Nah, mps in some respects do a good job, the majority of this country are too stupid and easily influenced by the right wing papers they read to make informed decisions.

This is the country where if i publically accused you of being a paedo with no evidence you would probably be stoned to death by an angry mob outside your house because of the furor stirred up by the Sun, et al.

No its not. While things like that have happened, its not the general behaviour of the people of this country. This is one of the most civilised countries in the world.
Go to Afghanistan and see them wanting to execute someone just for changing religion, and not by mob rule, but by thier own courts.Go to Rwanda.
As usual some people are far to impressed by themsleves and do nothing but look down on the avarage decent people of this country.

Thats not actually democracy though - thats a paternalistic dictatorship - its a dangerous path to think that you know better than the rest of the population...

Edit - My god - I seem to be siding with Throd on something!!!

Democracy doesn't work though, in it's truest form, legislation should never pander to kneejerk public opinion. There is no true democracy in this world. Public opinion changes ever few years and in some cases every few weeks depending on who currently has the most hegemonic power (which is the right wing press in this country) So essentially if MP's did what the "public" wanted they would be at the mercy of the news corporations anyway.

Until we can get all 60 million people wired into some kind of electronic voting system, where decisions are taken every day by referendum, we won't be living in a proper Democracy :)

It might not be perfect, but Democracy is the best system of government yet devised. Thats why Democratic countries don't tend to attack one-another.
