Determination and dedicated.
It would be easy to say he is stupid for not passing, but I don't think that is true, scholar knowledge is one of out many kinds of knowledges you can possess in this world and must admire someone for trying that hard to learn a knowledge he clearly don't have talent for.

I think it's dedication he has a dream and fuck me hes following it. I have a similar problem to him i suck at exams but my actual real knowledge of the subject is above degree level. Since high school/college/uni all my tutors/teachers have said if i could do an oral (spoken) exam i'd pass easyily.
