Had a little idea today, which seemed so simple but effective. I have had a search around the patent website from the uk but can't find anything in relation to my idea. However when I broaden the search I have found a couple of patents along the same idea as mine yet very different in design/style/use.

Does anyone know whether a us patent stops me filing my own in this country?

On Dragons Den they asked someone if they had a patent. The person said yes. They then asked if they had the patent just for the UK and the person said yes. They then told the guy to GTFO.

I don't know how you can check this sort of thing, but it seems you can get patents either for just your country, or all countries. Best look for a patent forum or something?

Whats your idea?

Well after reading the patent website :p I should not tell anyone my idea at all unless a solicitor is present. Although tbh I don't nkow if I have the inclination to actually follow this through.

Why invent something that's already been invented and works just fine?
