Right. Hello again. Hi. I have an 'idea' that I'd like patented. I'm wondering if any of you lovely people have ever been down this 'ere road before and if you have any hints or tips about what to do (re: getting a patent on something with the minimum of fuss and/or expenditure) and any pitfalls to avoid.

I've had a read of the Patent Office site, but I was after some first-hand advice, I guess.

Ta. :)

Mail some original info about it to yourself is always a quick and easy first step...

Not sure about what you do to take it further...

I think you may need to have a working model of the idea or some sort of blueprint to demonstrate that it will work.

You may have to consult a Patents Lawyer as well...not sure about this one though...

If you're serious, consult an IP lawyer immediately. It's very important to know what is and isn't covered by the scope of a patent.

I could tell you, but I went to 2 IP lectures then sacked off the rest of the course, and my IP textbook got used for roach material.

Sorry, but the company you work for owns your brain. Give up now, and you might not get sued.

I dont know if most companies work that way but ours certainly does.
If you have a spiffy idea that could make the company millions, the company "own" the idea.

The very idea of it gives me ideas. erm. :(

This is quite common in emplyment contracts...If you have an idea while working for a company...its basicly their idea.

If thats the case...before you patent your idea...leave your current employer!!

**** Consult a lawyer *****

You will be better off in the long run!!
