Scientologists are scary, but that was one of the worst pieces of journalism i've ever seen.

Although the new series of panorama is rubbish, it's lightweight and panders to the egos of the reporters and is almost devoid of research or balance.

Yer I know it's not popular, but I'll have to defend religion here =) No real church will ever force you to stay or to do things you don't want to do.

The Scientology is a bunch of absolute wierdos who just try to make as much money and have as much power as possible.

Like...umm...say...go to a marriage camp before you can get a church wedding? Or pay taxes because you belong to a religion?

prove to me, liloe, that scientology wont let people leave as a part of the fundamental part of their testament or what you wanna call it. its easy to say that to social aspect of the religion keeps people from leaving, but so does many other religions

2. If they let you leave =) This concerns Hunt's answer aswell. I mean it's a well known fact that the Scientology guys don't leave their "clients" that easily and many people had to deal with major problems, some of them having to change identities.

1: Yes, but still happens. You said "no church", i replied. And people find it totally normal by the way.

2: Yes, well churches pressure you too. Maybe not as fanatically, but still pressure with guilt and such. Not to mention the peer pressure from the homemakers and "good" christians.

I don't see the difference in these things with scientology. Same sh*t, different wrapper.

1. Providing marridge councilling isnt exactly a bad thing. I'd agree that saying you cant get married in a building until you go on the course maybe isnt the most diplomatic ways of doing it, but some places take marridge to be a sacred agreement and like to make sure you know what you are getting yourself into first

2. The doctrine of "the Church" and how people try to enforce it are two different things, but for some reason they never seem to meet at the same place. It's true that you get lots of crazy people in religion, but dont let that blind you to what they are actually trying to follow I suppose this applies to lots of faiths and beliefs.

3. I'd be dead sceptical about any religion that made you choose between paying or being kicked out. To me, that would actually show where their priorities were.

rofl aye it really happened and tbh stewie is the same height as tom cruise lol.


afaik hubbard set up CS as a bet that he couldn't "create" a religion, i think he was originally a sci-fi writer. It really does show how desperate people are to have something to believe in and to try and be a part of something bigger.

The one aspect of scientology I really really detest is that they dont approve of medical treatment there was something in the local news down here about this old woman who was a member and she gave them all her money then got sick and wouldn't get treatment for it, her family were furious but she just accepted it. tbh any "religion" that does that kind of crap, i.e. stuff not in the best interest of its followers or putting them in peril is wrong.

this is why im not a member of one, theyre all organisations set up by people and as we all know all people are flawed = religion is flawed.
